Sharp abdominal pain, particularly in the upper region, that intensifies at night or after eating, often indicates a Pitta dosha imbalance, frequently seen in conditions like gastritis or acid reflux in Ayurveda. The key is to soothe this aggravated Pitta and stabilize your Agni, or digestive fire, ensuring it functions optimally without disturbance.

First, evaluate your meal timings. Eating late can aggrevate digestive issues, so aim to have your dinner before 7 p.m. This gives ample time for digestion before lying down. Your meals should be light in the evening, and include foods with cooling and calming properties to pacify Pitta — such as cooked vegetables, basmati rice, and mung beans. Avoid spicy, oily, or excessively sour foods as they can further irrirate the dosha.

Consider incorporating aloe vera juice or amla (Indian gooseberry) into your daily routine. Both have a cooling effect and enhance digestion. Aloe vera juice, about 15-20 ml, taken in the morning can be particularly beneficial.

Since you’ve mentioned vomiting, it’s crucial to keep yourself hydrated. Sipping on warm water or herbal teas like licorice or fennel through the day can help regulate your digestive energy and prevent dehydration. These herbs are gentle on the stomach, providing relief from discomfort and aiding digestion.

Avoid stress as it can exacerbate symptoms. Incorporate relaxation techniques such as yoga or meditation into your daily routine to help maintain equilibrium in your body. Focus on postures like Vajrasana after meals, as it aids digestion and relieves symptoms.

However, if symptoms persist or worsen, make sure to seek medical attention promptly, as they could indicate underlying issues requiring further examination. Addressing this early is essential for your long-term wellbeing.

The pain you’re experiencing in your upper abdomen, particularly at night or after eating late, aligns with digestive discomfort that may be linked to a Pitta imbalance in your body. Pitta, being associated with the stomach and digestion, can easily become aggravated by late meals or spicy foods, leading to sharp pains and possibly vomiting.

First, prioritize maintaining a regular eating schedule, aiming to have your last meal at least three hours before bedtime. This allows enough time for digestion, reducing the chance for acid buildup that might cause discomfort. Opt for lighter, easily digestible meals at night, with food that is neither too spicy nor too oily which can further aggravate Pitta.

Including cooling herbs in your diet could be beneficial. Adding coriander, fennel, or cumin to your meals can help soothe digestive distress. Sip on fennel tea after meals—a simple preparation involves boiling one teaspoon of fennel seeds in a cup of water, then straining. This can help enhance digestion without over-stimulating it.

Herbal formulations like Triphala can be helpful, as they gently cleanse and support digestive tract regularity. Taking Triphala at night with warm water aids digestion. One tablespoon of aloe vera juice on an empty stomach in the morning can also assist in cooling down excess heat within the stomach and promoting digestion.

If vomiting persists or the pain intensifies, consult with a healthcare professional to rule out conditions like ulcers or severe digestive disorders. Consistent oversight ensures symptoms aren’t masking more complexities. Prioritize your health by balancing Pitta naturally while staying attuned to any escalating symptoms.
