Dark circles can indeed be persistent, and managing them with your schedule can definitely be a challenge. Siddha-Ayurveda offers some insights into addressing them by focusing on the root causes, which often involve lifestyle factors and dosha imbalances, particularly pitta and vata dosha.
First, let’s address the dietary changes you’ve made. Ensuring a diet rich in fruits and vegetables is excellent, but also consider incorporating foods that calm pitta and address vata imbalances, such as leafy greens, cucumbers, and juicy fruits. Drinking plenty of water is great, but also include drinks like tender coconut water to balance electrolytes and support hydration.
Almond oil indeed is quite beneficial due to its vitamin E content. Gently massage it under your eyes before bed to nourish the tissue. Turmeric (haldi) has anti-inflammatory properties and can be mixed with a small amount of buttermilk to apply under the eyes, allowing it to stay for about 15 minutes before rinsing off. This can be done 2–3 times a week.
Potato slices and chamomile tea bags are easy remedies. Place thin potato slices on your closed eyes for 15–20 minutes, or use brewed and cooled chamomile tea bags as compresses. These don’t take long and can be easily integrated into your routine—ideal while you’re unwinding at the end of the day.
From an Ayurvedic point of view, it’s also crucial to consider your overall routine. Adequate sleep is key, and during sleep, try to elevate your head slightly to prevent fluid accumulation under the eyes.
Stress can be a significant factor, so brief mindfulness practices or even short breathing exercises can be beneficial. Suitable practices involve abdominal breathing or nadi shodhana pranayama for just a few minutes twice daily.
None of these remedies should interfere with your busy schedule significantly, as most can be done in short, incremental steps throughout your day. However, if these circles persist or worsen, it might be wise to consult with a healthcare professional to rule out any underlying health conditions. This approach is safe and should align with supporting your current well-being while offering a chance to reduce those dark circles effectively.
