In Siddha and Ayurvedic traditions, the cycles of the moon are indeed considered significant. Amavasya, or the new moon, is often associated with introspection and calm, hence some people prefer to engage in activities encouraging inner reflection. However, there isn’t any concrete evidence or scientific basis within Ayurveda or Siddha medicine that specifically advises against sexual activity on amavasya.
Sexual activity in Ayurveda is typically discussed in the context of one’s doshas and overall health. It is an intimate and personal matter that, when approached mindfully, can be part of maintaining balance and vitality. Factors like age, health, and personal prakriti (body constitution) play a more decisive role rather than lunar phases.
What is generally stressed is that physical intimacy should not compromise one’s energy or lead to imbalance, particularly regarding the doshas. Vata, pitta, and kapha should remain balanced to maintain overall well-being, and overindulgence should be avoided as it could aggravate vata or pitta. If you and your partner feel good energetically, both physically and emotionally in tune, then there’s likely no adverse outcome to suspect purely due to amavasya. Keeping awareness of your body’s signals and responses should guide when to proceed or refrain from activities.
It’s more about alignment with personal cycles and energy levels than specific lunar events. Instead of overthinking, consider your state of balance, and maintain awareness of how activities impact your doshic constitution and energy levels. If concerns or imbalances arise, consulting a practitioner for personalized guidance can be beneficial.
