how to strengthen teeth gums - #39624

Ava

I am really worried about my dental health. Lately, I’ve noticed that my gums have been feeling kinda tender and I get this weird bleeding when I brush, which is super scary ya know. I’ve always taken care of my teeth, but I feel like maybe I’m missing something lately. I mean, I try using my regular toothpaste and mouthwash, but I am starting to wonder how to strengthen teeth gums effectively. I've been eating more sugary snacks because I’ve been stressed with work, ugh! I think that’s not helping at all. I read somewhere that certain foods can actually help with gums and teeth, but honestly I don’t know where to start. Like do I need to find a certain type of toothpaste too? I've tried oil pulling like, once or twice, but didn’t keep up because it felt kinda weird. If anyone has tips on how to strengthen teeth gums with natural remedies or maybe even some dietary changes, I am all ears! I don’t want to end up with gum disease or something worse. What do you guys think? Thanks a ton in advance for any advice!

Doctors' responses

Start by focusing on strengthening your gums and teeth with some Ayurvedic remedies and lifestyle modifications that align with the balance of your doshas and overall health. Tender gums and bleeding can be exacerbated by increased oral bacteria, which is why managing stress and avoiding sugary snacks is crucial; sugary foods can feed the harmful bacteria. A balanced diet and effective oral hygiene practices with the foundations of Ayurveda can greatly help. Here’s what you can do to start improving your oral health.

1. Dietary Changes: Incorporate fresh fruits and vegetables like apples, carrots, and celery, as they naturally clean teeth and stimulate gums. Green leafy vegetables are rich in vitamin C and calcium, vital for maintaining healthy gum tissue. Reduce your consumption of sugary foods to prevent plaque buildup.

2. Oil Pulling: Try resuming oil pulling, as it is an effective way to reduce bacteria and plaque. Use sesame or coconut oil. Swish around a tablespoon in the mouth for about 15-20 minutes first thing in the morning before brushing. It may feel unusual at first, but consistency is key to seeing results.

3. Herbal Remedies: Chewing on a neem twig or using neem-based toothpaste can be beneficial. Neem has antibacterial properties which fight germs effectively, promoting oral health. Similarly, Triphala powder can be used as a mouth rinse for its astringent properties that support gum health.

4. Herbal Toothcare: Use a herbal toothpaste that contains ingredients like clove oil, which can soothe gum irritation and aid in healing. Clove’s numbing effect can be particularly helpful for tenderness.

5. Stress Management: Since stress may be influencing your eating habits and possibly your oral health, incorporating relaxation practices such as yoga or meditation may be beneficial. This not only improves oral health but your overall well-being as well.

6. Hydration and Saliva Production: Stay hydrated, as adequate moisture assists in keeping your mouth and gums clean, while preserving saliva flow, which is the oral cavity’s natural defense.

7. Routine Check-ups: Ensure to maintain regular dental check-ups. If home remedies aren’t enough, a professional clean might be needed. Unresolved gum bleeding could be a sign of gum disease that might require dental intervention.

These changes should guide you toward better oral health. Ayurveda relies on regular practices to maintain balance, so remember, consistency will provide the best benefit long-term.
