Doctors' responses

Loss of penile erection at the age of 71 can be compounded by various factors including medication use and underlying health conditions. In Ayurveda, erectile dysfunction often ties to dosha imbalances, especially Vata and Pitta. The psychiatric drugs and cardiovascular medications may influence sexual health as well.

It’s crucial first to consult with your healthcare provider about these medications, as they might be contributing to this condition. Then, you might incorporate certain Ayurvedic perspectives alongside their guidance. Focus on balancing Apana Vayu and enhancing Shukra dhatu (reproductive tissue). Begin by incorporating Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) as a safe, natural supplement which may help in managing stress and improving vitality. Take 1 teaspoon of Ashwagandha churna (powder) mixed with warm milk, preferably at bedtime. Also, adhere to a Vata-Pitta pacifying diet – favoring warm, oily, and mildly spiced dishes can be beneficial.

Improving the digestive ‘Agni’ is essential; Trikatu (a combination of long pepper, black pepper, and ginger) may aid this. A pinch before meals can support digestion and nutrient absorption. Ensuring that your lifestyle aligns with your natural rhythms (e.g., regular sleep-wake cycles) is critical. Practicing gentle yoga and Pranayama (breathing exercises) can enhance circulation, reduce stress and promote overall balance.

Additionally, consider performing regular oil massages with warm sesame oil to promote circulation and calm the nervous system. This practice might help alleviate stress and nourish the body’s tissues. Always avoid vigorous activity or extreme changes at this stage.

Remember that it’s essential to engage with a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner or your primary doctor to create the best comprehensive plan unique to your constitution and conditions. Do not discontinue or adjust your current medication without consulting with your healthcare provider.

Loss of penile erection is a complex issue, particularly at your age and given your medical background. Your use of psychiatric medications can influence sexual function, as many such drugs may affect libido and erectile abilities. Additionally, the cardiovascular conditions that led to stent insertion suggest involving factors like circulation and vascular health, both important for erectile function.

From a Siddha-Ayurvedic perspective, this condition might be linked to imbalances in Vata and possibly Pitta doshas. Circulation and strength of tissues, governed by Apana Vata, Dhatu Agni (metabolic fire affecting tissues), and Shukra Dhatu (involved in reproductive health), could play roles here.

First, ensure that you have an adequate understanding of possible drug interactions. Consult your healthcare provider regarding the influence your current medications may have on erectile function.

To supplement, consider gentle yoga practices and Pranayama to improve energy flow and reduce stress, which could affect Vata dosha. Avoid excessive strain during these exercises. Including warm, grounding foods, like stews or soups with spices such as ginger and garlic, can enhance digestive fire and circulation, promoting Shukra Dhatu nourishment.

Focus on nasya therapy: apply two drops of warm, pure Ayurvedic sesame oil or ghee in each nostril daily, preferably early morning, to support Vata balance and nervous tension relief. Be sure your conditions allow for such practices.

Ginger tea may help improve circulation and energy, but monitor for any contraindications with your medications. Hydration and rest are paramount, as they help maintain balance and recovery.

Remember, sexual health is intertwined with overall wellness, and managing your depression and heart health should take priority alongside these suggestions. Always co-ordinate with your healthcare provider to ensure your holistic practices complement your ongoing medical treatment.
