Doctors' responses

Managing glare sensitivity involves understanding your unique ayurvedic constitution, especially the pitta dosha, which is linked to light sensitivity. This can be due to an imbalance, leading to heightened sensitivity to brightness and strong lights. Addressing your diet and lifestyle may help manage the symptoms along with the doctor’s advice.

First, focus on pacifying the pitta dosha by including cooling foods in your diet. Prioritize foods like sweet fruits (apples, pears, and melons), green leafy vegetables, cucumber, and foods that are naturally sweet and cooling like coconut water, which can help soothe the system. Avoid overly spicy and acidic foods like chili, pickles or fermented products, which aggravate pitta further.

Ensure your eyes remain lubricated with eye drops, preferably natural ones like rose water, applied gently once or twice a day. Triphala, an Ayurvedic eye tonic, may benefit you too. A teaspoon of triphala powder soaked overnight in water, strained and used as an eyewash or consumed, can be supportive.

Trataka, a practice of focused gazing, may strengthen the eyes’ capacity over time. It involves softly looking at a flame or fixed point looking at the duration that comfort allows, gradually building duration. However, only practice it in a comfortable setting that doesn’t strain your eyes.

Stay away from harsh sunlight or intense artificial light whenever possible. Sunglasses that offer UV protection can provide relief outdoors, while adjusting indoor light exposure with softer, warmer lighting can reduce discomfort.

Balance is crucial. Don’t skip regular medical consultations. Continue to monitor your condition with healthcare professionals since Ayurvedic practices are supportive, but may need to integrate with medical guidance to manage symptoms effectively.
