Doctors' responses

Graves’ Disease, a type of hyperthyroidism, often needs medical supervision, especially given the range of symptoms you’re experiencing. The combination of proptosis, heart palpitations, and thyroid inflammation requires thoughtful management. Immediate medical care is vital for irregular heartbeats and breathlessness to avoid complications, so please consult an allopathic doctor quickly for these.

In Ayurveda, harmonizing imbalances linked to Pitta and Vata doshas that may be contributing to your symptoms could offer supplementary relief. Here’s a detailed plan that might help alongside your primary treatments:

1. Dietary Adjustments: To calm pitta, consume cooling foods like cucumber, melons, and squashes, incorporating them into your meals. Avoid overly spicy, acidic and oily foods, as these can aggravate symptoms. Incorporate moderate ghee, a cooling fat, into your diet to help mellow out inflammation.

2. Herbal Support: Herbs like Brahmi can be supportive for nervous system stress; take 1 teaspoon of brahmi powder mixed with warm milk or water once daily. Ashwagandha, known for its adaptogenic properties, can help manage anxiety, but consult with a practitioner before incorporating as it can interact with thyroid medications.

3. Routine and Stress Reduction: Practices like meditation, gentle pranayama, and yoga are crucial, focusing especially on calming poses like child’s pose and cat-cow that don’t strain your neck or cardiovascular system. This can reduce stress and improve energy balance over time.

4. Eye Care: For your eyes, placing cool cucumber slices or cotton pads dipped in rose water over your closed eyelids may provide temporary relief for proptosis.

5. External Therapies: Shirodhara, a therapy where warm oil runs over your forehead for relaxation, can be beneficial but must be done under professional guidance.

Regular consultations with healthcare providers are crucial. An integrative approach, combining your current medical treatments with Ayurvedic practices, can help improve your health but please ensure all avenues of treatment are coordinated with your primary care provider.
