Doctors' responses

In the context you’re describing, focusing on a balanced approach is crucial. From an Ayurvedic perspective, excessive indulgence can lead to imbalance in your doshas, particularly vata and pitta. First, introducing a disciplined daily routine (dinacharya) can greatly assist in bringing balance. Wake up early, preferably with sunrise, and aim to go to sleep at a consistent time each night, ensuring 7-8 hours of rest.

Reducing pitta and vata provocation is important—incorporate warm, nourishing foods like whole grains (rice, quinoa), ghee, and cooked vegetables. Stay away from foods which are excessively spicy, processed, or fried to avoid aggravating these doshas. Drinking warm milk with a pinch of nutmeg before bed can aid in calming the mind and inducing restful sleep.

Regular practice of yoga and pranayama can be highly beneficial. Yoga postures such as Savasana (corpse pose) and Sarvangasana (shoulder stand) help channelize energy positively and reduce stress. Anulom Vilom (alternate nostril breathing) and Bhramari pranayama (bee breathing) are excellent for calming the mind, reducing anxiety, and bringing mental clarity. Engage in these practices for about 20-30 minutes daily.

Herbs such as Ashwagandha and Brahmi can support in reducing stress and rejuvenating the body. Ashwagandha is known for its adaptogenic properties, enhancing resilience against physical and mental stressors. Brahmi assists in promoting cognitive function and emotional stability. Take these as per guidance from a qualified Ayurveda practitioner.

Importantly, cultivate non-pharmacological interests and activities to distract the mind, such as reading, painting, or spending time in nature. Engage with social connections that support positive habits. Avoid isolation as it may lead to increased tendencies towards self-indulgence.

If the situation continues to create distress or interferes with daily functioning, professional support may be prudent. Psychological counseling can offer tools to manage compulsive behaviors in a supportive, non-judgmental manner. Prioritize health over secrecy, ensuring you address your concerns comprehensively with respect to mental health and well-being.
