Thyroid disorders, seeking natural Ayurvedic solutions - #18847

I have been suffering from severe headache attacks since 15/02/2024 and my symptoms have gradually become worse over the past few months. I first noticed a sharp, pulsating pain on the right side of my head that would last for several hours. Initially, the pain was intermittent, but over time it has increased in frequency and intensity. I have tried over-the-counter painkillers and some basic home remedies but nothing seems to offer long lasting relief. I attempted a short course of Ayurvedic treatment with herbal decoctions and oil massages starting on 01/03/2024, but the improvement was only minimal. Now, I experience the headache several times a week and sometimes it is accompanied by nausea and light sensitivity. Could you please provide me with advice on an effective Ayurvedic treatment plan to manage my migraine and reduce these severe attacks? I am also curious if certain lifestyle changes or dietary modifications recommended in Ayurveda might help in preventing further episodes.

According to your symptoms there is vata and pitta dosha imbalance we should manage that dosha first for that you can start with nasya therapy in which you have to instill 2 drops of anutaila in each nostril every day in morning and than gargle with warm water do not ingest the oil. Along with that you have to take some medicine which are

1)sutsekar rasa 1 tab twice a day 2) brahmi ghrita 1tsp at bedtime with warm water if you can take ghee 3) pathyadi kashay 15 ml with warm water twice a day 4) you can try shatavari and yashtimadhu tea

You have to make some lifestyle and dietary modification

Avoid: Spicy, fried, fermented foods, excessive caffeine, and irregular meal timings.

Include: Ghee, almonds, coconut water, and cooling foods.

Yoga & Pranayama: Sheetali & Bhramari Pranayama can help reduce headaches.

Daily routine: Head massage with Brahmi Taila or Kshirabala Taila.

Your symptoms suggest a Pitta-Vata imbalance. For relief, try Pathyadi Kashayam (as prescribed), Brahmi Ghrita (1 tsp with warm milk at bedtime), and Shadbindu Taila (2 nasal drops daily). Regular head massages with Chandanadi Thailam or Dhanwantharam Thailam can help.

Adopt a cooling diet (avoid spicy, oily foods) and maintain a consistent sleep routine. Practice Sheetali Pranayama and Nadi Shodhana for stress relief. Consider Shirodhara therapy for lasting benefits.

Dear, Thank you for sharing your concerns. Based on your symptoms—sharp, pulsating headaches on the right side, increasing in frequency and intensity, along with nausea and light sensitivity—it is likely that you are experiencing migraine-like headaches. Ayurveda attributes such headaches primarily to an imbalance in Pitta and Vata doshas, often aggravated by stress, irregular diet, and lifestyle Saraswatarishta – 10 mL twice daily with equal quantity of water after food • Gentle oil massage on the forehead with Jatamansi taila or Karpuradi taila followed by steam inhalation can provide relief. • Avoid spicy, fermented, and processed foods, as they increase Pitta dosha. • Include cooling foods like ghee, milk, coconut water, and seasonal fruits. • Maintain regular meal timings and avoid fasting for long durations. • Hydration – Drink lukewarm water infused with coriander seeds. • Reduce screen time and stress levels, as they are common migraine triggers. • Wake up early (before sunrise) to align with the body’s natural rhythms. • Practice Nasya therapy (2 drops of Anu taila in each nostril every morning) to prevent recurrence. • Engage in Pranayama (deep breathing exercises) like Bhramari and Anulom-Vilom to reduce stress and improve oxygen flow. • Daily yoga (Shashankasana, Balasana) to relieve tension and improve blood circulation.

Hello, do you also have hyperacidity or nausea along with headaches? Avoid loud noises, excessive screen time, and stress. Drink lukewarm water throughout the day. Follow a regular sleep schedule and avoid daytime naps. Avoid spicy, fermented, and processed foods; prefer warm, fresh, and light meals. Include cow’s ghee, almonds, and dates in the diet. Practice Sheetali and Anulom Vilom Pranayama daily.

Shirashooladi Vajra Ras 1 tablet twice daily after meals with warm water. Godanti Bhasma 250 mg twice daily with honey. Pathyadi Kashayam 15 ml twice daily before meals with warm water. Brahmi Ghrita 1 tsp at bedtime with warm milk. Nasya therapy with Anu Taila, 3-5 drops in each nostril daily morning.

Shirodhara with medicated oil like Ksheerabala Taila or Brahmi Taila for 7-14 sessions. Regular gentle head massage with Mahabhringraj Taila or Ksheerabala Taila.

Migraines can be a real struggle, and it sounds like you’ve been through the wringer. Let’s look at this through an Ayurvedic lens. Given the sharp, pulsating pain and nausea, we might be dealing with an aggravated Pitta constitution leading to these headaches. When Pitta goes out of balance, it can create heat and inflammation that manifests as migraine.

First, let’s talk diet. Cooling foods can be your new best friends. Start incorporating more cucumber, coriander, and mint into meals. Think of fresh coconut water as your new favorite drink! Avoid overly spicy, oily, and fermented foods which can increase Pitta and trigger headaches. Say goodbye to too much coffee and alcohol; these can often be culprits.

Lifestyle changes are also key. Make time for early morning meditation or pranayama—breathing exercises like Anulom Vilom—to cool and calm your mind. Sometimes, it’s about finding that calm in chaos. And speaking of routine, ensure you get consistent sleep! Lack of sleep is a common trigger. Maybe try going to bed and waking up at the same time each day, even on weekends.

For herbs, Brahmi and Ashwagandha are known to be helpful for reducing migraine frequency as they stabilize the nervous system. You might consider a daily Brahmi tea or Ashwagandha churna, added to warm milk, which helps ground excess Pitta. But it’s key to talk to an Ayurvedic practitioner, just to ensure these align with your specific constitution and current health state.

And hey, oil massages sound fantastic, especially with cooling oils like coconut or Brahmi oil applied gently on the scalp. But also be cautious; some oils might increase Pitta, counterintuitively worsening headaches.

In Ayurveda, improvement takes time. It’s not just about uprooting the current imbalance but bringing the body back to its equilibrium. Since your headaches are severe, if Ayurveda changes don’t help or symptoms worsen, follow up with a healthcare provider. Keep exploring until you find what brings balance. Trust your body; it often whispers, giving hints before it shouts.
