HELLO FARHA,

Your symptoms suggest chronic constipation, which can lead or to be associated with

1) DIETRY ISSUES -low fibre intake - insufficient water consumption

2) LIFESTYLE FACTORS -sedentry habits - ignoring the urge to pass stool - stress and anxiety

Ayurvedic views constipation as a vata imbalance, particularly apana vata, which governs elimination. Hard stools and dryness point to excessive dryness in the colon.

Likely involved - vata prakopa(aggravation of vata) - dry, cold, rough qualities dominating

TREATMENT GOALS 1) soften and regulate stools 2) heal and reduce pain 3) Balance vata dosha 4) improves digestive strength 5) prevent recurrence

START INTERNALLY WITH -these target vata imbalance, dry stools and poor bowel movement

MILD DAILY LAXATIVES

1) TRIPHALA CHURNA= 1 tsp with warm water at bedtime =softens stool, promotes complete evacuation, rejuvinates colon

2) HARITAKI CHURNA= 3gm at bedtime with warm water =vata pacifying, gentle laxative, relieves gas and bloating

3) ABHAYARISHTA= 30 ml with equal water twice daily after meals =best for chronic constipation, piles , anal fissure and gas

4) AVIPATIKAR CHURNA(if acidity)= 5gm with water before meals = reduces pitta, heylpsbowel movement

STRONGER LAXATIVES( IF SEVERE CONSTIPATION)

1) GANDHARVAHASTADI KASHAYA= 15ml with warm water twice daily before meals =clears vata from the colon, use for dry constipation

2) ERANDA TAILA= 5-10 ml with warm milk at bedtime once weekly =strong purgatives, lubricates colon, heals fissure

DIET RECOMMENDATIONS the goal is to moisten the intestines, balance vata, and ensure soft, regular stools

FRUITS= ripe banana, papaya, figs(soaked), prunes, soaked raisins, stewed apples- natural laxatives, fibre rich

VEGETABLES= bottle gourd, pumpkin, spinach, carrots, beetroot(cooked)- easy to digest, promotes bowel movement

GRAINS= rice, oats, wheat, barley- light, nourishing grains

FATS= cows ghee(1-2 tsp/day), sesame oil- lubricates intestines, pacifies vata

LIQUID= warm water, soups, thin moong dal, herbal teas- keeps digestion smooth, hydrates colon

SPICES= hing, ajwain, cumin, fennel, ginger- improves digestion, reduces gas and bloating.

FOOD TO AVOID

DRY FOODS= crackers, chips, popcorn

COLD OR RAW FOOD= salads, refrigerated drinks

HEAVY AND CONSTIPATING= cheese, red meat, fried foods, too much panner

REFINED AND PROCESSED= maida, white bread, pastries

SPICY OR ACIDIC= chillies, pickles, citrus in exces

-Avoid sitting long on the toilet -never suppress the urge to defecate - avoid long sitting hours-take short walks or breaks -manage stress- if directly impacts your bowel via the gut-brain axis

YOGA FOR YOUR CASE -practice daily, on an empty stomach ,preferably in the morning

pawanmuktasana- stimulates intestines, releievs gas Vajrasana= aids digestion if done after meals Malasana= opens pelvis, supports bowel movement Bhujangasana= strengthens abdominal organs Dhanurasana= massages abdominal organs

PRANAYAM -anulom vilom bhramari. sheetali

DAILY HABITS -Warm water+ghee in the morning -soaoked figs or raisins before breakfast -yoga and breathing in morning

DO FOLLOW

HOPE THIS MIGHT BE HELPFUL

THANK YOU

Chronic constipation can deeply affect daily life, so addressing it with Ayurveda’s holistic approach can be valuable. Your discomfort needing attention, particularly if it’s been 25 years. According to Ayurveda, constipation often arises due to Vata dosha imbalance, particularly the Apana Vata responsible for downward movement. Here are practical steps tailored to restoring balance and helping relieve your condition.

First, incorporate warm, cooked meals into your diet to reduce Vata. Favor foods like oatmeal, warm soups, and well-cooked vegetables such as carrots or squash, which are grounding and easy to digest. Avoid cold, dry, or raw foods that may aggravate Vata further.

Ensure your diet includes ghee or sesame oil, known to lubricate the intestines and alleviate dryness — a common Vata trait. About one teaspoon of ghee, taken at bedtime with warm milk, can be effective. Try soaking dried figs or raisins overnight and consuming them on an empty stomach. Their fiber and natural sugars may help stimulate bowel movements.

Hydration is crucial, so drink warm water throughout the day. Herbal teas, particularly those containing ginger or fennel, may support digestion. An early morning routine with a glass of warm water with lemon can encourage bowel movements.

Establishing a regular routine is essential to pacifying Vata. Wake, eat, and sleep at the same time each day as much as possible. Practicing gentle yoga or stretches, particularly those focusing on the abdomen, may stimulate Agni—the digestive fire—and support elimination. Simple postures like the child’s pose or spinal twists can be beneficial.

Consider internal oleation therapy with the guidance of an ayurvedic practitioner. Castor oil or triphala churna taken at night is often prescribed, but do consult before use due to your prolonged symptoms. Triphala acts as a mild yet effective laxative for Vata-related constipation, promoting bowel health.

Lastly, managing stress through practices like meditation or pranayama are key, as Vata imbalances are often linked to mental disturbances. Anulom Vilom or Nadi Shodhana may particularly aid in calming Vata.

However, given the persistence of your condition, it’s important to ensure there’s no underlying issue that requires medical treatment beyond Ayurveda. If symptoms persist or worsen, consulting with a healthcare professional would be wise to ensure a comprehensive approach to your health.

Chronic constipation often points to an imbalance in the vata dosha, which governs movement and elimination. With your longstanding experience with this issue, it’s likely that the vata in the digestive tract has become aggravated. To help balance this, consider incorporating these practical steps:

1. Begin your day with a glass of warm water mixed with a teaspoon of ghee on an empty stomach to lubricate the intestines and promote smoother elimination. Make sure the ghee is pure and well-sourced.

2. Regularity in meals is essential. Eating at the same times each day helps regulate your digestive cycle. Prefer warm, cooked, and slightly oily foods, which are easier on the digestive system. Avoid dry, cold, or excessively oily foods as they might worsen vata.

3. Triphala is a traditional Siddha-Ayurvedic formula beneficial for constipation. Take one teaspoon in warm water before bed. It helps to gently cleanse the bowels without causing dependency or irritation.

4. Practice Abhyanga, or self-massage, with warm sesame oil to enhance circulation and calm the nervous system. Perform this before your bath or shower to allow the oil to soak into the skin.

5. Establish a routine that includes some gentle exercise to keep the body’s energy channels or nadis flowing. Yoga or brisk walking for 20-30 minutes can be particularly useful.

6. Maintain adequate hydration. Drink warm water throughout the day, but avoid drinking large amounts with meals as it can impair digestion.

7. Avoid mental stress, which can aggravate vata. Include meditation or deep-breathing exercises to help settle the mind.

If symptoms persist, it’s vital to consult a healthcare provider to rule out other underlying conditions. Chronic issues like yours deserve careful attention and personalized care.
