Help with Digestive Issues and Bloating - #51102

Hi, I am seeking expert help in regards to my digestion. Sometimes it's completely fine but very often it get irritated and I get bloaty and have cramps in intestines (I think :D) The thing is I took some quizzes and so I should be predominantly Vata. I work from 6pm-2am, live in cold UK, I'ma vegetarian and when at home, I eat warm meals, sometimes fruits. At work I really struggle as I get hungry and need to eat but almost 80% of what I consume doesn't make me feel good. I refuse to use microwave to warm up food because it kills all goodness in it. On the other hand I end up eating some bread, spreads, cheese, sometimesraw side salad, I stopped eating raw fruits at evening and night as it'sthe worst. But still ...most of the times I eat and then I feel bad. I don'twant to be starving either...can you help suggest different things? I recently got back from India where my digestion thrived, I love cooking Indian, use a lot of spices tostay warm inside so my day starts well but ends up bad. I'm quite fond of eating in more ayurvedic ways as itmakes sense to me. Thank you for any kind of help 🙏

Hello Thank you for explaining so beautifully Your observation is very good and yes your pattern strongly suggest vata predominance with irregular Agni TRIGGERS IN YOUR CASE - Cold weather - Night work ( disturbs natural circadian) - late eating - Dry foods ( breads) - Cheese - Raw salads In india you feel better bcoz -Warm climate -Freshly cooked food - Regular meal timing ABOUT MICROWAVE Microwave does not kill all goodness It heats food by vibrating water molecules Ayurveda prefers fresh warm. Food If microwave allows you to eat warm instead of cold bread it is a better option Cold dry food is far worse than reheated warm food YOUR REAL PROBLEM LATE NIGHT EATING As sun gets down our digestion also becomes slow You work from 6pm-2am So your biggest challenge is How to eat warm, digestible food during shift I Will give you practical work plan which will suit you according to your schedule WORK PLAN Before work Have your main meal -Rice + moong dal -khichadi -Vegetable curry and roti - add ghee During work Better option you can carry Instead of bread and cheese - Thermos with vegetable soup -Small khichadi in insulated containers - Steamed sweet potato - Upma -poha - Handful soaked almonds ❌Avoid -Cheese - Raw salads - Cold sandwiches - large fruit portion Around midnight If hungry - warm herbal rea - small handful nuts -Roasted makhana - Very small portion of cooked food Do not eat heavy at 1-2 am Spices that will help Add regularly cumin, fennel, coriander, ajwain, hing, fresh ginger AYURVEDIC SUPPORT 1.hinguvasthaka churna 1 tsp with warm water just before lunch 2.Triphala tablets 1 tablet at night ❌Avoid bread and cheese Bread is dry and gas forming While cheese is heavy and difficult to digest This combination is perfect for vata bloating You said your appetite is consistent and healthy This means your agni is little irregular we just need to balance it So only i have stressed more on your lifestyle and diet correction and not on merely medicines Wishing you a good health 😊 Warm Regards Dr Snehal Vidhate

HELLO, -Predominantly vata -cold UK climate -Late night work 6pm-1am -Digestive flare ups mostly after evening eating -Digestion thriving in India This is a classical vata aggravation in the colon+disturbed digestive fire (vishama agni- irregular digestion) WHAT’S LIKELY HAPPENING Vata increases with -cold weather uk climate -irregular schedule/ late nights -eating on the go -dry foods bread, crackers -raw foods salads, fruit -cheese hard to digest, mucus forming -eating when stressed or rushed When vata accumulates In the colon-> gas, bloating, cramps, feeling bad after eating, especially at night In India your digestion improved because -warmer climate -freshly cooked meals -more spices -more regular mealtimes -likely less bread and cold foods So your body is clearly resounding to warmth + rhythm FIRST= ABOUT THE MICROWAVE Microwave do not “kill the goodness”" of food. Nutrients are destroyed mostly by -overheating -long cooking times -oxidation Microwaving is actually often gentler than stovetop reheating If avoiding microwave is forcing you into bread/cheese/salad- that’s harming digestion more than reheating would This may be an important mindset shift PROTECT YOUR EVENING DIGESTION Since late eating triggers discomfort, your goal is -Make your 6 pm- 2 am shift feel like a normal digestive day RIGHT NOW YOUR BODY THINKS -6PM= wind down time -10PM-1AM= repair time But you’re feeding it heavy/dry/cold foods We need to reduce digestive load at night WHAT TO EAT AT WORK (vata friendly, night safe) BEST OPTION=THERMOS MEAL (game changer) Use a good insulated thermos (they keep food hot 6-8 hrs) BRING -khichdi = mung + rice + cumin + ghee + ginger -lentil soup with root vegetables -carrot and red lentil dhal -stewed rice with ghee + cumin -vegetable coconut curry light Warm soft moist spiced This alone may fix 70% of your symptoms IF YOU MUST SNACK Better options than bread and cheese -soaked almonds peeled -rice cakes + ghee + pinch of salt -oatcakes + avocado + cumin -hummus + cooked veg sticks not raw –warm herbal tea ginger, fennel, cumin AVOID -cold salads -hard cheese -raw fruits at night (you already noticed this) -large bread based meals -yogurt at night EVENING EATING RULES FOR YOU Because you’revata +night worker -eat smaller portions at work -eat warm/ room temp only -add gheee or olive oil (lubricate vata) -add digestive spices= cumin, fennell, ajwain, ginger -sip warm water-never cold SPICES SUPPORT Before your work meal -5 thin slices fresh ginger -squeeze lime -pinch rock salt Chew 10 minutes before eating

OR DRINK CCF TEA= cumin + coriander + fennel This stabilizes irregular digestion beautifully BIGGER PATTERN= YOUR AGNI IS STRONG IN MORNING, WEAK AT NIGHT So -make breakfast and lunch your biggest meals -make work meals smaller + easier to digest EXTRA SUPPORT FOR NIGHT WORKERS You are working during vata time(2am-6am especially) TO PREVENT BLOATING -rub warm sesame oil on belly before shower (morning) -keep abdomen warm -try triphala 1/2 tsp at bedtime when you sleep after shift You clearly understand your body well. The fact digestion tried in India tells us your system can work beautifully when supported correctly DO FOLLOW HOPE THIS MIGHT BE HELPFUL THANK YOU

You need warm, cooked, unctuous (oily), mildly spiced, easy-to-digest food especially during your night (work hours) and absolutely no raw, cold, dry, light or gas-forming food after sunset. ✓Wake-up (around 10–11 am – your morning) Warm water + ¼–½ tsp dry ginger powder 10 min Anulom-Vilom pranayama (reduces Vata fast) ✓First meal (your breakfast – 11 am–12 pm) Warm moong dal khichdi or vegetable khichdi cooked with 1–1½ tsp ghee + pinch hing, cumin, rock salt Add cooked lauki, pumpkin, carrot or bottle gourd Small bowl curd (room temp) with roasted cumin if tolerated Work snacks / meals (6 pm–2 am – most critical) Carry in steel tiffin (pre-warm if possible): Khichdi / daliya / upma / poha (all cooked with ghee + mild spices) Idli or steamed dhokla (with coconut chutney) Vegetable soup (moong dal + lauki + carrot) Roti + sabzi (cooked veg + dal) ✓Never eat: bread, cheese, spreads, raw salad, fruits, cold drinks, microwave food Allowed small treats: 4–6 soaked almonds, 1–2 dates, or small laddoo (jaggery + ghee + atta) if craving sweet ✓Before sleep (around 3–4 am) Warm golden milk (plant milk or cow milk + ½ tsp ghee + pinch turmeric + pinch nutmeg/jaiphal) Helps calm Vata & prevents 2 am hunger ✓Key rules for your shift Eat every 3–4 hours during work (small warm portions) No raw or cold anything after sunset No heavy pulses (chana, rajma, urad) at night Keep fennel seeds or ajwain in pocket – chew ½ tsp when bloated ✓Supportive Ayurvedic add-ons (very gentle) Hingwashtak Churna – ½ tsp after main meals with warm water Triphala powder – 2–3 g at bedtime with warm water Warm sesame oil abdominal massage clockwise 5 min nightly Regards Dr Gursimran Jeet Singh MD Panchakarma
