I have been diagnosed with gallstone and sludge in the gallbladder. I suffered from a very painful gallbladder attack and had an ultrasound. Doctor is recommending surgery to remove the gallbladder. Is there a way to dissolve the gallstone and not have surgery?

Hello Thank your sharing your detailed report I will be very honest so that we can make a right detailed ▪️Important finding -stone is present at gall bladder neck so that it is non motile -Presence of sludge -Thickening of wall is around 8mm this indicates chronic inflammation So according to me It is not just a case of gall stones but there is possibility of blockage So we have to be careful ▪️Can Ayurveda treat it? simple small and esrly stages stones with minimal sludge can be managed very well But in your case your stone is at neck and it has already causing wall thickening So please understand -Complete removal of gall stones is not possible -There is possibility of sudden attack or pain episode ▪️About Surgery? You should go for surgery when -You are having recurring pain attacks -Stone gets stuck at neck -Thickening of gall bladder See docters are suggesting surgery to prevent further complications ▪️What we can do? We can do conservative management to delay your surgery or to avoid, but it should be strictly monitored If you get severe pain without any doubt opt for surgery ▪️Internal Medication ➖Varundi kwath tablets 2 tablets twice daily after food ➖pithorin 1 tablet twice daily after food ➖Lithorin 1 tablet twice daily after food ▪️Diet plan -Have light easily digestible food -Avoid fermented, fried Heavy to digest food And also avoid long fasting ▪️For your understanding I am not here to make you worried but you should know all the complication before making any decision If stone gets stuck and block the duct It may cause -Infection- cholecystitis -Pancreatitis If your symptoms are mild then you can manage with conservative treatment But if you feel your condition is worsening please go for surgery Wishing you a good health😊 Warm Regards Dr Snehal Vidhate

Thank you Doctor. This is very helpful. Can you tell me what causes chronic inflammation? I feel like I am generally quite healthy, stay away from junk food, and moderately active. Have gained and lost weight over the years but no bad habits like drinking or smoking either

Chronic inflammation is not always linked with bad habits It may be due to -Irregular eating habits or pattern This leads to incomplete digestion -Gaining and losing weight can disturb metabolism -Digestive issues like bloating acidity -Mental load stress -Irregular sleep timings -Certain food combination So inflammation is not always due to wrong habits

Indicate gallstone with binary sledge with significant gallbladder wall thickening wall thickening over 3 mm suggest a inflammatory changes as the history of painful gallbladder attack your case require a complex approach This condition occurs when the component of bile become imbalance leading to formation of solid particles There are some causes like when bile contain too much cholesterol and not enough bile salt the excess cholesterol can crystallize into stone If the gallbladder doesn’t empty completely the bile becomes concentrated And certain other conditions in which the liver produce too much bilirubin leading to pigment stone Also there is a Pitta kapha imbalance and low digestive fire in your body Some other causes like sedentary habit Rapid weight loss gender or hormone irregular male timing likes skipping meal Your report mention 8 mm wall which is higher than normal which is caused by presence of stone which irritates the lining of the bladder known as chronic inflammation Also stone is at neck of bladder cause obstruction so that wall gets inflamed So here I will focus on herbs which provide you relief 1) varunadi kwath- 15 ml mixed with 45 ml lukewarm water Empty stomach before breakfast and lunch 2) alsactil tablet- 1 tab after breakfast with Luke warm water 3) liposem tab -2 tab after lunch and dinner with Luke warm water 4) avipathi churna -1 tsp at bedtime with warm water Avoid: Deep-fried foods, heavy fats (vanaspati), red meat, and heavy dairy (cheese/cream). These trigger gallbladder contractions which can cause pain if the stone is at the neck. Favor: Fiber-rich foods, whole grains, and bitter vegetables like bitter gourd (Karela) and pointed gourd (Parwal). Hydration: Sip lukewarm water throughout the day to maintain bile fluidity. Gentle walking after meals aids digestion. Meal Timing: Eat small, frequent meals rather than large, heavy ones to reduce the workload on the gallbladder. My goal here is to reduce the inflammation (wall thickening) and liquefy the sludge. However, since the stone is “nonmobile” at the neck, you should monitor closely. If symptoms do not subside within 4-6 weeks of conservative management, or if they worsen, the surgical recommendation should be reconsidered to avoid complications like gallbladder Take care

Hello, Your gallbladder is a small pouch under the liver that stores bile, a digestive juice that helps digest fats. When bile becomes too concentrated, or when there is imbalance in its components (cholestrol, bile salts, bilirubin), small hard deposits called stones form inside Ayurveda calls this condition “pittashmari” It occurs when -pitta dosha becomes too strong or stagnant -kapha dosha mixes with it -the mixture thickens inside the gallbladder , loses its flow and over time, solidifies into stones Treatment goals -stop new stop formation by balancing bile composition -reduce size or dissolve soft stones if small gradually -relieve symptoms like bloating, nausea, pain after fatty foods -cleanse liver and gallbladder for toxins and excess bile -prevent recurrence Internal medications 1) arogyavardhini vati= 1 tab twice daily afte rmeals for 3 months =improves liver metabolism, prevents bile stagnation 2) chandraprabha vati= 1 tab twice daily after meals for 3 months =clears blockages in bile ducts, mild pain relief 3) punarnavadi guggulu= 2 tabs twice daily after meals for 3 months = helps reduce swelling and aids bile flow 4) bhumiamalaki juice= 20 ml twice daily for 3 months =known for its stone dissolving and liver supporting effect 5) triphala churna= 1 tsp with warm water at night =maintains bowel regularity and reduces pitta buildup 6) horsegram soup= natural litholytic 1 cup dailyy=traditional remedies too reduce stone hardness Yoga and pranayam Gentle yoga improves bile flow and liver function avoid heavy twisting if stones are large Asanas -bhujangasana= improves bile flow -dhanurasana= massages abdomen -pawanmuktasana= improves digestion -ardha matysendrasana= stimulates liver and gallbladder -shavsana = reduces stress related bile imbalance Pranayam -anulom vilom= balances all doshas -sheetali= cools down excess pitta -bhramari= calms the mind Diet -light, easily digestible foods= khichdi, moong dal, vegetable soups -healthy fats= small quantity of olive oil, flaxseed oil, or ghee -fruits= apple, papaya, pear, amla, pomegrnatae -vegetables= bottle gourd, ridge gourd, pumpkin, ash gourd -whole grains= barley, millet, red rice, oats -detox drinks= warm water with lemon , turmeric, and honey in morning -herbal teas= cumin coriander fennel tea for digestion Avoid -fried and oily foods -green leafy vegetables in excess -egg yolk, red meat, butter, cheese, junk food -sour and spicy items- pickles, vinegar, chilli -alcohol and carbonated drinks -skipping meals or overrating Home remedies -lemon-olive oil cleans= 1 tsp olive oil + 1/2 lemon juice in warm water before breakfast =helps maintain bile flow and reduce bile stagnation Avoid if you have nausea or acidity -horse gram soup= soak 2 tbsp horse gram overnight, boil with 2 cups of water, reduce to 1 cup -add a pinch of cumin and black pepper -take daily for 3 months -turmeric milk= at night natural anti inflamamtory, supports liver -aloe vera juice fresh= 20 ml daily empty stomach Aids bile balance and mild detox -ayurevda focuses on balancing doshas, restoring liver health, and preventing recurrence - rather than just removing the stone -if stone are large (>1/5 cm), old or calcified, complete removal natural is difficult- but symptoms control and prevention of complications are achievable Do follow Hope this might be helpful Thank you

Thank you so much Doctor. This is very helpful. If I take any of these medications you mentioned that can “cleanse” the gallbladder, does that mean they will make the gallbladder contract to push out the bile? Wouldn’t that cause another painful attack?

Okay, in Ayurveda, gallstones can be dissolved. Medicines will have to be given depending on how big the stones are. Can you send me the sonography report?

Hello, Can you please mention your ultrasound reports? It is possible to dissolve gallstones naturally without surgery in Ayurveda in most scenario. So, we will of course go for Ayurveda treatment after studying your USG reports. In Ayurveda, gallstones are referred to as Pitta Ashmari. The condition is seen as an imbalance of Pitta (digestive fire) and Kapha (which provides the binding quality), leading to the “drying” of bile into stones. Ayurvedic Perspective on Management : Ayurveda focuses on Pitta Shamana (calming the fire) and Lekhana (scraping/dissolving) properties. However, natural dissolution depends heavily on the size, number, and composition (cholesterol vs. pigment) of the stones.

Yes it is possible in some cases to reduce or gradually dissolve gallstones without surgery but it depends on size type and symptoms Small cholesterol stones and sludge can sometimes be managed with medicines diet correction and Ayurveda like Varunadi kwath Punarnava Guggulu and regular intake of warm water with mild fats to improve bile flow But if stones are large recurrent severe pain infection or blockage is present then surgery is the safest option because complications can become serious So if your pain was severe and repeated surgery is usually advised but if it was a single episode with small stones you can try conservative management under proper supervision

In Ayurveda we look at gallstones as a result of long standing imbalance of pitta along with kapha leading to thickening and stagnation of bile which gradually forms sludge and then stones when agni is disturbed and digestion is not proper In very early stages when there is only mild sludge or very small cholesterol stones it is sometimes possible to manage and gradually reduce them by correcting agni improving bile flow and reducing pitta kapha through proper diet herbs and lifestyle and medicines like punarnava bhumyamalaki katuki trikatu in appropriate combinations along with controlled fat intake warm water and avoiding heavy oily fried and very spicy foods But once a person has already experienced a severe gallbladder attack it indicates that the stone is obstructing the bile flow intermittently and creating acute inflammation which can become risky if repeated because it may lead to complications like infection or pancreatitis Ayurveda can support by reducing further inflammation calming pitta and improving digestion but complete safe dissolution of an active gallstone is not always reliable and takes long time So if the pain episodes are severe recurring or if the stone size is significant then surgery is considered the safest and most practical option to prevent emergency complications If you are not having frequent attacks and the stone is small then a monitored Ayurvedic approach can be tried for some time with strict diet discipline regular follow up and if symptoms worsen surgery should not be delayed

Since you have gallstones and sludge, it’s important to approach this carefully. Not all gallstones can be dissolved naturally, especially if they are large or calcified. Small cholesterol stones and sludge can sometimes be managed and reduced with Ayurvedic measures and dietary support, but this requires consistency and medical supervision. Ayurveda focuses on digestive balance, bile regulation, and gentle flushing of toxins. Take Kalmegh (Andrographis) decoction 20–30 ml twice daily to support liver function, and Chandraprabha Vati or Avipattikar Churna 1 tsp at bedtime with warm water to regulate bile and digestion. Use Triphala churna 1 tsp at bedtime for gentle bowel cleansing. Include warm ghee (1 tsp daily) in meals to help bile flow and reduce Vata-Pitta stress. Avoid fried, oily, heavy, and cold foods, and stick to light, cooked meals with vegetables, whole grains, and mild spices like cumin, coriander, and turmeric. Gentle massage of the right upper abdomen with warm sesame oil can support circulation. Drink warm water throughout the day and practice deep breathing or meditation to reduce stress, which can trigger attacks. With this approach, gallbladder attacks can reduce, sludge may gradually dissolve, and small stones may shrink over months. If stones are large, calcified, or attacks are frequent and severe, surgery remains the safest option. Regular ultrasound monitoring is essential.

Gall bladder stone is caused due to inadequate water consumption , causing crystallization of bile . You need to start with Heposem syrup 10ml twice daily before food with water Avipattikar choornam 1tsp twice before food with water. Cystone tablet 1-1-1 after food with water. Take this treatment 2 Months, if it dissolves it is good, But if you experience frequent pain it is better to go for surgery, because here ther are chances of stone moving to pancreatic duct , it will be an emergency. Prevent long fasting hours, donot keep your self with out food for long hrs. Drink adequate amount of water through out the day Avoid spicy, fried foods. Some of the recommended medication are attached here, you can buy at 10% discount. Rest you need to buy from outside store. If you don’t receive the attached prescription, please let me know.
