It sounds like you are dealing with a cluster of symptoms that are not only exhausting but also interconnected. From a clinical perspective, the combination of mouth breathing, heavy snoring, and disturbed sleep often points toward Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). When you breathe through your mouth all night, it dries out the oral mucosa, leading to that parched feeling. The frequent urination at night (nocturia) and shortness of breath during exercise are significant markers. While they can be related to sleep issues, they can also signal that your heart or metabolism is working overtime. In Ayurveda, this presentation is viewed as an imbalance of Prana Vata (respiratory/nervous system) and Avalambaka Kapha (which protects the heart and lungs). Vata-Kapha Obstruction: Snoring and mouth breathing are seen as Kanthopalepa (blockage in the throat) caused by excess Kapha. Dhatu Kshaya: The shortness of breath during walking suggests a weakness in the Prana Vaha Srotas (respiratory channels) and potentially Rasa Dhatu (plasma/circulation). Vata Irritability: The frequent urge to urinate at night is often a “Vata” disturbance in the lower system (Apana Vata), though in Ayurveda, we also look at Udaka Vaha Srotas (water metabolism) when dry mouth is present. Medicines : 1. Agasthya Rasayanam This is a premier lehya (jam) for respiratory strength. it helps clear the airways and reduces the “heaviness” that leads to snoring. Dose: 1 tablespoon twice daily after food with warm water or honey. 2. Dhanwantharam Gulika Excellent for regulating Vata and supporting heart/lung function, particularly when you feel breathless or have chest discomfort. Dose: 1 tablet crushed and mixed with warm water or cumin water, twice daily. 3. Varadi Kashayam Used to clear excess Kapha and “medas” (fatty tissue) from the throat and respiratory tract, which can help reduce the physical obstruction causing snoring. Dose: 15ml mixed with 45ml of lukewarm water, taken on an empty stomach in the morning and evening. 4. Anu Tailam (Nasal Drops) Essential for “lubricating” the nasal passage to discourage mouth breathing and clear the sinuses. Dose: 2 drops in each nostril every morning (Pratimarsha Nasya). Since you mentioned shortness of breath during brisk walking and frequent nighttime urination, I strongly recommend checking your blood pressure and blood sugar levels. These symptoms can sometimes overlap with cardiovascular strain or early-stage diabetes, and it’s important to rule those out alongside your Ayurvedic regimen.
Your symptoms suggest a combination of Kapha + Vata imbalance, with possible issues like nasal obstruction, weak bladder control, and reduced lung capacity. Treatment should address all together For dry mouth + mouth breathing + snoring Anu Taila (nasal drops) 2 drops in each nostril morning & night Helps open nasal passages, reduces snoring Yashtimadhu (Mulethi) powder ½ tsp with warm water at night Reduces dryness, soothes throat For frequent urination at night Chandraprabha Vati 1 tablet twice daily after food Gokshuradi Guggulu 1 tablet twice daily after food Strengthens bladder, reduces urgency For breathlessness on walking Sitopaladi Churna + Honey ½ tsp + 1 tsp honey twice daily Arjunarishta 15 ml + equal water after meals (2 times) Improves lung & heart function General support Warm water sipping whole day Avoid: cold water, curd at night, heavy dinner Do steam inhalation at night (5–10 min) Sleep on side (not on back) to reduce snoring
Your symptoms — dry mouth at night, snoring, mouth breathing, frequent urination, and shortness of breath on walking — suggest a possible airway obstruction (like nasal blockage or sleep apnea tendency) along with imbalance in breathing patterns. Avoid sleeping flat on your back; try side sleeping. Keep dinner light and at least 2–3 hours before sleep. Avoid caffeine and alcohol. Regular walking and weight control will help. At home, you can do steam inhalation before bed. Putting 2 drops of ghee or Anu taila in each nostril at night can help keep nasal passages clear. Anu taila (nasal drops) – 2 drops in each nostril at night Chandraprabha vati – 1 tablet twice daily after food Sitopaladi (tablet form) – 1 tablet twice daily This will help improve breathing, reduce dryness, and support overall balance. If snoring is very severe or you feel breath stopping during sleep, a sleep study (to check for sleep apnea) is important. Regards, Dr Raghuveer (Ayurvedacharya)
Hello, Please check the following, which may be the reason for snoring, dry mouth, shortness of breath during the walks- 1. Body weight-Overweight can cause the snoring and snoring causes the dry mouth. 2. Deviated nasal septum- Can cause nasal septum and in turn the dry mouth. As this may even cause shortness of breath if there is a block. To get checked for the above please meet either ENT/ ayurveda doctor who is specialized in ENT-Shalakya 3. Increased urine frequency-If you are a male who is over 55, there may be a benign prostate enlargement. A USG will give a clear picture. Take care, Kind regards.
Before starting treatment, this case should not be managed blindly. The symptoms can be linked with metabolic factors, so first step is proper evaluation. step 1: investigations (must be done first) Advise the patient to get: Fasting Blood Sugar (FBS) Postprandial Blood Sugar (PPBS) HbA1c Lipid Profile why this is important Frequent night urination can be due to Diabetes Mellitus Snoring + breathlessness + fatigue often coexist with Dyslipidemia and obesity-related issues These conditions can worsen airway obstruction and sleep quality So treatment direction depends on whether metabolism is involved or not step 2: clinical interpretation after reports if sugar is elevated: manage as prameha / madhumeha pattern nocturia + dryness strongly correlate priority → sugar control + srotoshodhana if lipids are high: indicates kapha–meda dushti contributes to snoring and airway narrowing if reports are normal: then primary diagnosis shifts toward Obstructive Sleep Apnea + nasal obstruction step 3: management (can be started alongside testing) 1. nasya (important) Use Anu taila nasya 2–3 drops in each nostril early morning daily helps in nasal patency, reduces snoring, dryness, mouth breathing 2. diet regulation avoid: curd at night, fried food, sweets keep dinner light and early reduce kapha-aggravating foods 3. night care steam inhalation before sleep sleep in lateral position (not supine) restrict fluids after evening
