I am 83 years old and in good health, but have problems with my heart. In normal condition my heart is in good condition, but as soon as I do some strenuous work e.g. garden work, especially bending down - i get pain in my heart and my heart beats quickly and I feel uneasy and have to sit down, I also get a slight headache. My BP stays normal. This problem  gets acute when I have to work bending down. Can you kindly suggest some yoga exercises, mudra or ayurvedic medicines or special diat? Thanks.

At age 83, experiencing chest pain and a rapid heartbeat during exertion—especially while bending—is a symptom that requires careful management. Kindly go with these medicnes: Rx 1.Arjunarishta 20 ml with 20 ml water twice daily after meals 2.Prabhakar vati 1 tab twice daily with water after meals 3.Arjuna churna 3/4 tsp twice daily with warm milk after meals Yoga, Mudras & Breathing At 83, yoga must be extremely gentle. Avoid all poses that involve bending forward or putting pressure on the chest. -Apana Vayu Mudra: Join the tips of the middle and ring fingers to the tip of the thumb, while the index finger touches the base of the thumb. Practice this for 15 minutes twice daily; it is known as the “Hridaya Mudra” for heart support. -Anulom Vilom (Alternate Nostril Breathing): Practice for 5–10 minutes daily. Ensure breathing is slow and relaxed; do not hold your breath. -Bhramari Pranayama: 5 rounds twice daily to calm the nervous system and reduce heart-related anxiety. -Shavasana (Corpse Pose): Spend 10 minutes in total stillness for deep physical and mental relaxation. Dietary & Lifestyle Advice -Modified Gardening: Avoid bending down directly. Use a small stool to sit upright while working, or use long-handled tools to avoid straining the heart. -Diet: Keep meals light, warm, and easy to digest. Include small amounts of garlic if it suits you, as it supports circulation. Avoid heavy, oily, or very salty foods. -Hydration: Sip warm water throughout the day rather than drinking large amounts of cold water at once.

At your age this kind of symptom should not be taken lightly because pain in the chest with fast heartbeat on exertion especially while bending can indicate strain on the heart so along with Ayurvedic support it is very important to get a proper cardiac evaluation once to rule out any blockage or ischemia from an Ayurvedic understanding this looks like imbalance of vata affecting the heart region along with mild depletion of strength so the approach should be gentle and stabilising not aggressive for yoga avoid any posture that involves bending down or putting pressure on the chest instead do very mild practices like slow walking gentle stretching and simple breathing practice Anulom Vilom for five to ten minutes in a very relaxed manner do not hold the breath just slow inhalation and exhalation you can also do Bhramari Pranayama five rounds twice daily which helps calm the heart and mind for mudra practice Apana Vayu Mudra for fifteen to twenty minutes twice daily this is traditionally known to support heart function and reduce palpitations in medicines you can consider Arjun based support as Terminalia arjuna is very beneficial for heart strength take Arjuna kashayam fifteen ml with equal water twice daily after food you may also take one tablet of Arjunarishta based preparation after meals in small dose depending on digestion keep your food light warm and easy to digest avoid heavy oily and fried food avoid overeating include garlic in small quantity if it suits you take warm water sip by sip and avoid sudden exertion most important avoid bending work like gardening in that posture instead use a stool or do work in a sitting upright position and take frequent breaks if at any time pain becomes severe spreads to arm jaw or is associated with sweating or breathlessness do not wait seek immediate medical care with gentle routine proper rest and heart supportive herbs you can remain stable and comfortable but do not ignore evaluation once
