When it comes to autism, Ayurveda offers insights but it’s good to keep expectations realistic. Recovery of speech and improving intelligence may not be fully achievable just through Ayurveda, especially for someone who’s 27, but there can be supportive approaches.
In Ayurveda, it’s important to consider the body constitution or prakriti, and how the doshas (Vata, Pitta, Kapha) are balanced or imbalanced. Speech issues and focus might be connected to Vata imbalance – it controls movement and communication. Pitta is related to intellect and understanding.
For Vata calming, routine is king! Ensuring your son has a daily routine can bring stability to his life. Simple things like waking up and going to bed at the same time. Foods that are warm, moist, and oily are often recommended – think sweet potatoes, rice, and ghee. Kitchari, a mix of rice and mung dal, is also soothing and gentle on digestion.
Furthermore, turn to herbs like Brahmi and Ashwagandha – they’re renowned for promoting calmness and supporting the nervous system. You might want to consider a medicated oil massage. A gentle abhyanga (oil massage) with sesame or Brahmi oil can calm Vata. It’s soothing, and grounding, and can be a wonderful way to bond.
Meditative practices or mindfulness, even if in simple forms, can nurture a more peaceful mind. If your son is comfortable, you might include light breathing exercises or guided meditations to encourage relaxation.
But remember, any holistic healing, including Ayurveda, supplements conventional methods — it doesn’t replace them. Check with a healthcare professional familiar with your son’s needs before starting new treatments. Safety first, especially with health!
While complete ‘recovery’ isn’t garantied, exploring these supportive measures can offer small, meaningful improvements over time, contributing to your son’s overall well-being.
