So you’re dealing with psoriasis for quite a while now, I get it—it’s pretty frustrating. But don’t worry, Ayurveda’s got some good tools to help you manage it. First off, let’s think about the dosha imbalances that could be involved here. Psoriasis often links to kapha and pitta imbalances, so that’s what you’d wanna focus on balancing.
Start by tweaking your diet. You might want to avoid foods that are too oily, spicy, or heavy, as they can aggravate pitta and kapha. Instead, go for fresh, light veggies and fruits. Bitter, pungent, and astringent tastes are your go-tos. Things like bitter gourd and spinach can be really helpful. Cut down on salty and sour foods, which can make things worse.
Abhyanga, or self-oil massage, can be beneficial too, but choose oils like neem or turmeric-infused oils, which are more cooling. Do this in the morning before your shower, if possible. Try to keep the shower lukewarm to avoid drying out the skin further. Hot water is a no-no.
You could also try making a paste of turmeric and neem powder mixed with a little water. Apply it once daily to affected skin—not on an open wound though. Both these herbs help with reducing inflammation and are known for their skin-healing properties.
Stress is another biggie when it comes to psoriasis, so bring in some relaxation techniques. Yoga or pranayama (breathing exercises) can help. Spend a few minutes each day focusing on deep breathing or do some simple yoga asanas that you enjoy.
Now, we can’t forget about digestion! Ayurveda sees a strong digestive fire, or agni, as crucial for health. Drinking warm water throughout the day helps maintain agni. Also, ginger tea before meals can help improve digestion.
And… i know it sounds basic, but try to get lots of sleep and keep regular routines. It helps your body manage stress better, reducing flare-ups.
Remember though, ensure you keep in touch with your healthcare provider, especially as you’re already on allopathy. Any changes in treatment should always be discussed with them!
