In managing diabetic foot, a multi-faceted approach is definitely key, especially when dealing with symptoms like itching and blisters. The first thing is to ensure blood sugar levels are well controlled, as this has a direct impact on healing. You should regularly monitor blood glucose and work with the existing healthcare team to keep it within the recommended range.

It sounds like your mom is experiencing Pitta (heat) imbalance, often the root of skin-related issues like itching and inflammation, according to Ayurveda. Here are some recommendations that could complement the existing treatments she’s receiving:

1. Diet and Lifestyle Adjustments: It’s crucial to adopt a Pitta-pacifying diet. This means incorporating cooling foods while minimizing spicy, salty, and sour items. Encourage her to eat more fresh fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, avoiding processed foods that can complicate blood sugar control. Hydration is also critical, so drinking plenty of water helps flush toxins out of the system.

2. Herbal Remedies: Neem is well-regarded in Ayurveda for its cooling properties. You can use neem leaves to make a poultice and apply it on the foot – this could help in soothing the blisters and keeping them from getting infected. Turmeric, known for its anti-inflammatory properties, might also be beneficial. A paste made from turmeric and water applied to the wound can aid in healing.

3. Topical Oils: Coconut oil, with its cooling and moisturizing effect, can be gently massaged (not rubbed) over the affected area. Ensure cleanliness before application to prevent additional irritation.

4. Regular Foot Care: Even with daily dressing, maintaining hygiene is paramount. Ensure the feet are cleaned with warm (not hot) water daily and dried thoroughly, especially between the toes. Use clean, soft cloths for dressing, and avoid tight shoes which can aggravate the blister.

5. Herbal Teas: Chamomile or spearmint tea can be soothing and might assist in reducing stress and internal heat. Consider these in moderation, as they are generally safe for most people.

6. Seek Professional Help: Given the seriousness and progression of the condition, if there’s any indication of infection, it’s critical to contact a healthcare provider immediately.

Remember, these suggestions should not replace medical advice but rather complement existing treatments. Continuous observation and a willingness to adapt as necessary are essential in managing diabetic foot effectively, so do involve an Ayurvedic professional who can assess based on her specific constitution and symptoms.
