is curd good for acidity - #23230

Gabriella

I am struggling with some really annoying acidity issues lately. It started a few weeks ago after I had a really spicy meal, and now I’m constantly feeling this burning in my chest, ugh! I’ve tried some antacids, but they don’t seem to help much. I heard that curd can be soothing for acidity, but I’m a bit confused about it. Is curd good for acidity? I mean, I love yogurt and all, but will it actually help, or could it make things worse? Does anyone have tips on how to include it in my diet or other natural remedies that work? Thanks!

Curd can genuinely be a good choice for easing acidity issues. It is cooling in nature, which can be soothing for that burning sensation you’re experiencing, and it also helps in promoting healthy digestion thanks to probiotics. However, in Ayurveda, it’s important to consider your unique dosha or constitution, and whether it suits your prakriti. Pitta-type individuals, who are prone to heat and inflammation, often find relief with cooling foods like curd.

In terms of introducing curd to your diet: go for plain, unsweetened yogurt, and it’s better consumed during the day rather than at night, when digestion is stronger. Try pairing it with a pinch of cumin or coriander powder to enhance its digestibility. A tablespoon of sugar or honey might also be added, but should still be balanced according to your taste and tolerance.

As for other natural remedies, one effective approach is to keep your meals small and frequent — think of eating every 2-3 hours rather than having large meals that burden digestion. Avoid spice-heavy foods, or acidic fruits like citrus, tomatoes, or vinegar-based dressings.

Ayurveda also recommends warm chamomile or ginger tea, which can ease digestion without irritating your gut. Fresh aloe vera juice, in moderation, can coat the esophagus and stomach lining, soothing that burning sensation.

Above all, staying hydrated with room-temperature water aids in flushing out toxins. But remember, lifestyle factors like reducing stress through yogic breathing exercises, or even a daily walk, are equally key contributors to managing acidity. Additionally, if symptoms persist or worsen, a consultation with a healthcare professional is advisable. Proper diagnosis is crucial; it’s not always wise to substitute professional guidance with home remedies alone.
