how to make kajal at home - #23602

Addison

I am really curious about how to make kajal at home! Recently, I’ve been looking for natural alternatives to commercial eyeliners, especially since my eyes have been getting irritated from the ones I’ve used for years. A friend told me about making it myself, which sounds super fun!!! I read some stuff online about using ghee and aloeswood, but it all seemed kinda complicated, like I might mess up or something. Plus, I wonder about the right proportions or if I can add any herbs? My mom used to make kajal with her grandmother, but she doesn't remember all the details. Sometimes I feel bit overwhelmed with all the info on how to make kajal at home! Has anyone tried this and could share their tips or a simple method? I really wanna get it right because I think homemade kajal would be so much better for my eyes and actually satisfy that DIY itch I have. Thanks in advance!

Making kajal at home can indeed be a rewarding experience, especially if you’re aiming for a natural alternative that’s gentler on your eyes. I can guide you through a traditional yet simple method for creating your own kajal with an Ayurvedic touch. Please be aware that this requires some patience, and a little experimentation along the process but don’t worry, it’s not as complicated as it sounds!

1. Ingredients and Setup: You’ll need some ghee (clarified butter) and a cotton wick—these are the essentials. Ghee is nourishing and can help in lubricating the eyes. Additionally, if you have access to aloeswood (agarwood) powder, it’s excellent for soothing properties, but not absolutely mandatory. You can make an effective kajal without it.

2. Preparation: Place the cotton wick in an earthen lamp or a similar heat-resistant container filled with ghee. Light the wick and allow the flame to produce soot. Use an inverted metal plate or a small bowl that can capture this soot effectively without getting overheated.

3. Collection: Let the flame burn steadily for a few hours, until you collect enough soot. This process, known traditionally as ‘kajal’ production, forms the base of your homemade eyeliner. Make sure to let the plate or bowl cool down before collecting the soot.

4. Mixing: After collecting the soot, mix it gently with a few drops of ghee until you reach your desired consistency. The ratio might vary depending on personal preference. Too much ghee might be messy while too less might make it difficult to apply, so experiment until it feels right.

5. Herbal Additions (Optional): If you wish, you can incorporate a pinch of camphor for cooling effects, or rose water for a soothing sensation. Before adding any extra element, ensure you’re not allergic and test a small amount on your skin initially.

6. Storage: Store the prepared kajal in a small, clean container. Ensure you close it tightly to maintain hygiene, therefore preventing any contamination. Generally, keep it away from extreme heat to preserve its quality.

Homemade kajal is known for being skin-friendly and nourishing with its natural ingredients. It’s important to always carry out a small patch test, especially if you’re new to making or using homemade DIY products to avoid any unexpected reactions. Also, monitor how your eyes feel after using it and be mindful of any irritation, as individual sensitivities can vary. This method connects you closer to the traditional practices and adds a personalized touch to your beauty regime.
