what is shilajeet - #24997

Hunter

I am really confused about this whole thing with shilajeet. A friend mentioned it after I shared that I’ve been feeling super low on energy lately, like, just exhausted by the smallest tasks. And you know, I’m in my late 30s, trying to juggle work and family, but it feels impossible right now. Anyway, she said shilajeet could help, but I have no idea what is shilajeet or how it works. I've done some Googling, but all the info seems kinda vague and fancy. It sounds like something out of an ancient story, right? But what is shilajeet really? Is it safe? I worry about what I put in my body, especially since I also have these occasional stomach issues, and I’ve read some things that say it could be a bit potent or not for everyone. I wonder, should I even consider trying it? Can it really boost energy, or is it just another overhyped supplement? Any personal experiences or advice would be so helpful!

Shilajit is definitely one of those substances that comes with a mystical aura! It’s a blackish-brown resin-like mineral substance, primarily found in the rocks of the Himalayas and other mountain ranges. Referred to as a “rasayana” in Ayurveda, it is traditionally revered for its longevity and rejuvenatory benefits. According to Ayurveda, shilajit is believed to bring balance to all three doshas—Vata, Pitta, and Kapha—though its warming properties make it especially potent for people with Vata and Kapha imbalances, which often present as low energy levels.

Its wide range of trace minerals and fulvic acid is said to enhance energy, metabolism, and vitality by enhancing the “agni,” or digestive fire, and promoting nutrient absorption in the body. For someone in their late 30s, juggling work and family, shilajit could indeed act as a supportive ally. However, it’s crucial to note that shilajit can also be quite potent and should be used cautiously, especially if you’re prone to stomach issues, as it might aggravate certain digestive conditions due to its warming nature.

Let’s talk about safety first—ensure you’re sourcing it from a reputable supplier. Authentic shilajit should be free from heavy metals contamination which sometimes occurs during its processing. To start, the general advice is to begin with a very small dose, maybe around a pea-sized portion or as directed by a healthcare provider familiar with Ayurveda and adapt based on how one’s body reacts.

If you’re worried about stomach issues, you could consider taking shilajit with clarified butter or warm milk, which acts as a vehicle to balance its intensity and safeguard your stomach lining. Remember that shilajit is not a quick fix, it’s more of a gradual process, so be patient and see how it works for you. Testing authentically-sourced shilajit under expert guidance would be wise to do for optimum support! If your symptoms of fatigue are persistent, it’s also wise to explore other potential underlying causes with a health professional.
