Migraine during periods and weight gain - #26835

Sheena

I am 39 years old with a regular menstrual cycle. I experience headaches on the 2nd or 3rd day of my period, and I notice weight gain afterward that does not subside. This pattern has been occurring for the past 6–7 months, during which I have gained approximately 7–8 kilograms.I have recently started to take m2tone tablet twice daily. Pls advise me.

The headaches you’re experiencing during your menstrual cycle can be linked to hormonal fluctuations particularly with estrogen and progesterone levels. In Ayurveda, these symptoms can often be seen as an imbalance in the Vata dosha, especially when Pitta elements also play a role, causing those intense headaches. Let’s explore how we can bring balance.

For the headaches, try applying a paste made of sandalwood powder mixed with water gently applied on your forehead. This can help to calm Pitta and provide cooling relief. Sipping on coriander seed tea can further soothe and pacify Pitta-related inflammation. Boil a teaspoon of coriander seeds in a cup of water, strain, and drink once or twice daily.

The weight gain might be related to Kapha dosha. Focus on light, easily digestible foods during your menses. Choose spiced teas such as ginger or fennel to support a strong digestive fire(eliminate that excess Kapha buildup), and stimulate agni. Avoiding heavy, oily, and cold foods is key, as these can aggravate Kapha.

Your intake of m2tone tablets is noteworthy—aimed at regulating menstrual cycles. While continuing, ensure a balanced diet rich in whole grains, fresh vegetables, and lean proteins. Limit processed and sugary foods; they can increase Kapha and contribute to weight gain.

Introduce regular exercise, particularly activities like brisk walking, to help reduce any excess weight. If headaches persist, applying gentle pressure at the base of your thumb which is considered a marma point for headache relief can work wonders.

If the migraines or weight gain don’t subsides, please consult a healthcare professional or an experienced Ayurvedic practitioner to look into hormone levels or other underlying issues that might require examination. Ensuring holistic health approach is essential.

The pattern of headaches during menstruation and weight gain may point towards an imbalance in your doshas, likely a combination of vata and kapha. This can impact not only your periods but also your metabolic processes. While M2-Tone can help regulate menstrual cycles, complementary Ayurvedic practices might better address your symptoms holistically.

Firstly, to counter the headaches, these may be tied to digestive imbalances affecting your agni. Re-establishing digestive fire is essential. Start each day with a warm glass of water mixed with a teaspoon of fresh ginger juice and half a teaspoon of honey. This should be done before breakfast as ginger is known to ignite agni and balance vata. Additionally, try applying a paste of black pepper and turmeric mixed in water to your forehead when headaches arise – this can help pacify the aggravation.

Regarding weight gain, a kapha imbalance might be hampering your metabolism. Engage in a daily routine of moderate exercise – brisk walking or yoga for at least 30 minutes, preferably in the morning when kapha is naturally higher. Continuing this practice can promote gentle calorie burning and maintain your energy channels (nadis) flowing.

Your diet should focus on light, easily digestible foods. Avoid excess salt and sugar, and steer clear of heavy, oily meals which can exacerbate kapha. Preferring warm, cooked meals with spices like cumin, cinnamon, and turmeric can aid digestion and balance doshas.

If symptoms persist, follow up with a healthcare provider. An in-depth examination might be necessary to ensure there are no underlying conditions like thyroid issues contributing to your weight gain. As you implement these Ayurvedic strategies, monitor whether they deliver the balance and relief you seek.
