how to remove dark circles - #35864

Olivia

I am dealing with these pesky dark circles under my eyes for a while now, and honestly, it's making me look more tired than I feel! 😩 I thought it was just lack of sleep at first, but I'm really trying to get my rest in. I've tried creams, some natural remedies from grandma, but nothing seems to work. I think it might have to do with my screen time too – working from home has me glued to my computer all day long. Last week, I did this weird finger tapping thing for like 10 minutes, heard it helps get circulation going or something. Didn't help much tho. I also drink tons of water, or at least I think I do? But these dark circles ain’t budging! I’ve read about some Ayurvedic remedies but dunno where to start. Is there like one go-to thing that really works? What about diet? Do I need to cut something out? Feeling frustrated cause I really want to look bright-eyed like I used to. Anyone here knows how to remove dark circles? Like seriously, sitting in front of a mirror trying to cover them up each morning is getting old. Any tips or insights would be super appreciated!

Dark circles, as you’ve rightly observed, often go beyond mere lack of sleep. In Ayurveda, they can be attributed to imbalances in the Pitta dosha or even a weak agni (digestive fire). Given your extended screen time and lifestyle, addressing this through a combination of dietary adjustments, lifestyle tweaks, and some Ayurvedic remedies could be quite beneficial.

Diet: Start by inclduing more foods that are cooling and hydrating, which help balance the Pitta dosha. Think cucumbers, melons, and leafy greens. Reduce intake of caffeinated beverages and spicy foods, which can exacerbate Pitta imbalance. Eat more whole grains, vegetables, and lean protein to support digestive health.

Lifestyle: Considering the screen time, take regular breaks. Follow the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 mins, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds. This will reduce eye strain significantly. Ensure proper posture to avoid excess tension in the neck and shoulders, which can contribute to dark cirlces.

Remedies: Try a simple almond oil application. Gently massage almond oil under your eyes before going to bed. Almond oil is rich in Vitamin E and helps nourish the delicate skin around your eyes. Another effective remedy can be cucumber slices — applied directly to closed eyes for 10-15 minutes, they help to refresh and hydrate the skin.

Herbs and Treatments: Consider using Kumkumadi Tailam, an Ayurvedic oil that’s known for its skin-brightening properties. Apply a small amount beneath the eyes and massage gently in a circular motion. Additionally, drinking herbal teas like chamomile or rose can assist in relaxing and cooling the body.

Hydration: Ensure you’re drinking ample water daily, but also include in your diet hydrating foods and reduce diuretic intake. Sometimes we think we’re drinking enough, but busy days can lead us to fall short.

Restorative Practices: Establish a regular sleep schedule, aiming for 7-8 hours of uninterrupted rest. Incorporate practices such as meditation or yoga to decrease stress levels, which can inadvertently darken the undereye region.

Each of these steps focuses on reducing Pitta dosha and strengthening the body’s systems, offering a natural and holistic approach to diminish dark circles under the eyes.

Dealing with dark circles can certainly be annoying, especially when it feels like you’ve tried every trick in the book. From an Ayurvedic perspective, dark circles can result from several factors including stress, poor circulation, and imbalances in your body’s doshas—particularly Vata and Pitta. Working from home in front of screens can aggravate this by straining your eyes and causing poor sleep patterns.

Here’s a practical approach you can try with Ayurvedic principles: Start by reducing screen time, or at least take frequent breaks following the 20-20-20 rule – every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds. This can reduce eye strain significantly. At bedtime, consider applying a paste made from almond oil and honey around your eyes before sleeping. Almond oil is known for nourishing qualities, especially benefiting the subtle tissues around the eyes, while honey can help soothe any inflammation caused by Pitta.

Enhance your diet by adding fruits and vegetables rich with antioxidants. Berries, oranges, and dark leafy greens can help cleanse the body systems and support healthy microcirculation, which is essential for reducing dark circles. Incorporating Tulsi tea into your routine can balance Vata-Pitta doshas due to its adaptogenic properties, aiding in stress management.

Pay attention to hydrating adequately—not just water, but fluids like coconut water or herbal teas. These can provide electrolytes that might be more beneficial than just plain water. Ensure that your sleep quality is good, not just quantity. Try an Ayurvedic herb like Ashwagandha, which can support restful sleep and tackle underlying stress.

Remember, consistency is key with Ayurvedic solutions, so give these remedies some time. If they don’t improve the situation within a few weeks, consulting with a practitioner who can assess your unique constitution and suggest personalized treatments could be a next step.
