Applying henna to the hair generally does not directly cause hair loss. Henna is a natural product and is often used in Ayurveda for its conditioning and cooling properties. However, using henna too frequently, like on a weekly basis, can potentially lead to dryness and brittleness of the hair, espeically if it’s not prepared or applied properly. Over time, this might contribute to hair weakness and eventually, breakage. It’s important that henna is mixed with natural ingredients like amla (Indian gooseberry), shikakai, or brahmi, which provide nourishment and support hair health.

Considering your age and the pattern of hair loss described, you may be experiencing androgenetic alopecia, which is a common type of hair loss that occurs with age. Stress is another common factor that can contribute to hair thinning. Given your vegetarian diet, it is great that your iron levels, B12, and vitamin D are within normal limits, as deficiencies can sometimes contribute to hairloss.

I recommend you reduce the frequency of henna application to once a month. Ensure its mixed with conditioning agents like fenugreek or yogurt. Incorporate a weekly oil massage using a mixture of coconut oil and herbal oils like bhringraj or neem, which are known in Ayurveda to strengthen hair follicles. Leave overnight and wash off in the morning.

Additionally, consider having a balanced diet with enough protein from legumes, nuts, and seeds, and incorporate green leafy vegetables to ensure overall nourishment. You could also consult a healthcare professional for an evaluation of your thyroid function or hormonal levels, as imbalances can impact hair health significantly.

Seeking a professional Ayurvedic consultation could provide personalized advice to manage any potential dosha imbalances (especially Pitta, which is related to hair health). If hair loss continues, consider seeking dermatological advice or trichologist to rule out other underlying causes.

Applying henna weekly could potentially have some effects on hair, but it’s not typically linked to significant hair loss by itself. Henna, when used in its natural form, is generally safe and can condition the hair. However, frequent application might dry out the hair, making it prone to breakage, especially if any impurities are present in the henna. It’s important to ensure the henna you use is pure and free from synthetic additives, which can be harmful. Given that you’re experiencing hair thinning, there are other factors likely influencing this issue.

In Ayurveda, hair loss is often considered a sign of an imbalance in the doshas, particularly the Vata and Pitta doshas. Stress, hormonal changes, or blood circulation issues can exacerbate this imbalance, affecting hair growth cycles and leading to hairfall. As a vegetarian, even with your iron levels in check, further consideration into your diet can help. For instance, make sure you’re getting enough protein and healthy fats, crucial for hair health.

Start by incorporating Amla (Indian Gooseberry) in your diet or as a supplement; it’s beneficial for hair strength. Also, consider gently massaging your scalp with oils such as Bhringraj or coconut oil infused with Brahmi to enhance nourishment and improve blood circulation. This can help in rejuvenating hair follicles.

Additionally, try to reduce the frequency of henna applications to monthly and monitor any changes. If hairfall persists, it might be beneficial to consult with an Ayurvedic practitioner who can delve deeper into your prakriti and recommend personalized treatments or dietary adjustments. Watch for stress and practice relaxation techniques like yoga or meditation, which can be helpful in balancing doshas and supporting overall well-being.
