Chronic sinusitis, especially with your symptoms of headache, facial pain, and post-surgery complications, can be quite persistent due to underlying dosha imbalances. In Ayurveda, sinusitis is often linked to Kapha dosha, obstructing pathways in the nasal and head region. The resulting Ama (toxins) exacerbate symptoms, leading to discomfort. Here’s a personalized plan to help alleviate your symptoms:

First, consider practicing Nadi Shodhana Pranayama, a breathing exercise that helps clear sinuses and balances Kapha. Spend 5-10 minutes daily, preferably morning, to stabilize doshas and improve circulation.

Dietary adjustments are crucial. Reduce intake of Kapha-aggravating foods like dairy, oily, and cold items. Opt for warmer, spiced meals — ginger, black pepper, and turmeric can support your digestive fire, thereby reducing Ama accumulation. Ensure your meals are regular; avoiding late-night snacks aids digestion.

Restoring balance with herbal support is beneficial. You might find Trikatu Churna, a blend of ginger, pippali (long pepper), and black pepper useful. Take a ¼ teaspoon with honey after meals twice daily — it should improve sinuses and inflammation relief. However, consult an Ayurvedic physician for precise dosage and if you’re on other medications.

Regular Nasya (nasal oil application) with Anu Taila can also be supportive, applied in the morning after bath. A gentle head massage using warm sesame oil before a warm shower might alleviate upper back and facial pain by improving circulation.

Hydration plays an important role in detoxifying. Drinking warm water throughout the day helps, but avoid chilled liquids. Steam inhalation with eucalyptus oil can provide temporary relief to sinus congestion and ear itching. Perform at bedtime or before bath to optimize results.

Finally, managing stress through meditation or yoga enhances overall wellness and reduces chronic inflammation. If symptoms persist or worsen, particularly with previous surgical history, it is vital to communicate this with your healthcare provider to rule out any complications.

Chronic sinusitis can be challenging and needs a multidimensional approach to provide relief. From a Siddha-Ayurvedic perspective, sinusitis often involves an aggravation of the Kapha dosha, combined with an imbalance in the Vata dosha, which can lead to symptoms like headache or facial pain. The post-surgical condition could mean your system is still trying to recover and re-balance.

One of the initial steps is to focus on your diet and lifestyle, aiming to reduce Kapha. Eat warm, easily digestible, and light foods. Avoid dairy, cold beverages, or processed foods since they can increase Kapha. Drinking warm water with lemon or a pinch of ginger powder may aid digestion and help clear Kapha. Also, incorporating spice such as cayenne pepper (in moderation) could help boost the digestive fire, known as agni.

For nasal support, steam inhalation with eucalyptus or peppermint oil can be beneficial. Doing this once or twice daily can help clear nasal passages and relieve congestion. Avoid excessive use if you find any irritation. Nasya therapy, which involves the administration of herbal oil drops into the nostrils, might assist in soothing and clearing the nasal pathways, but it should be performed under guidance of a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner.

Practicing simple neck and shoulder exercises can address the pain in the upper back region. Gentle yoga postures catering to these areas, such as Bhujangasana (cobra pose) and Matsyasana (fish pose), might also offer some relief. But ensure you only perform exercises that are comfortable and safe for you.

For ear itching and burning sensations, ensure your ears remain dry and clean. Subtle ear exercises or massages might also encourage better circulation, but refrain from inserting any objects into the ear. Any persistent or significant symptoms, especially post-surgery, should be evaluated by a medical professional to rule out complications or infections needing immediate intervention.

Thanks so much for clarifying this! I had no idea mixing meds could be risky. I'll stick to my doctor's meds and look into Ayurveda separately.
