Copper T causing heavy periods and discomfort, can Ayurveda help? - #16529

I got a Copper T inserted about six months ago as a birth control option, and while it’s effective, I’ve been having some really uncomfortable side effects. My periods have become much heavier than before, and they last longer—sometimes over 8 days. I also get more intense cramps than I used to, especially during the first few days of my cycle. It’s not unbearable, but it’s definitely affecting my daily life. Apart from that, I feel like my body is reacting differently ever since I got the Copper T. I’ve been feeling more bloated, and sometimes I get random lower back pain that wasn’t there before. I don’t know if this is just my body adjusting or if the Copper T is causing some imbalance in my system. I read that the extra copper in the body could disturb Pitta levels—could that be what’s happening? I don’t want to remove the Copper T just yet because I need a non-hormonal birth control option, but I also don’t want to keep feeling like this every month. Can Ayurveda help manage the side effects of Copper T? Are there herbs or remedies that can reduce heavy bleeding and ease cramps naturally? Would something like Ashoka or Shatavari help? Also, is there any detox method to balance excess copper in the body? Should I be avoiding certain foods that might be making it worse? I’m open to lifestyle changes if that can help reduce the discomfort. If anyone here has used Ayurveda to manage side effects from Copper T, what worked for you?

In Ayurveda, heavy and prolonged periods (Rakta Pradara) are often linked to aggravated Pitta, while increased cramping and lower back discomfort point to a Vata imbalance. Since the Copper T introduces additional copper into the body, it can overheat the system, causing inflammation and excessive menstrual flow. However, Ayurveda offers ways to balance Pitta, regulate Vata, and minimize discomfort without removing the Copper T. To reduce heavy bleeding and cramps, include Ashoka (500 mg twice daily) and Shatavari (500 mg twice daily with warm milk) in your routine. Ashoka strengthens the uterine muscles and helps control excessive menstrual flow, while Shatavari nourishes and soothes aggravated Pitta. Drinking cold-infused coriander seed water (1 tsp coriander seeds soaked overnight in a glass of water, strained, and consumed in the morning) can naturally cool the body and reduce excessive bleeding. For cramp relief, gently massage your lower abdomen with warm castor oil or sesame oil before your period to calm Vata and relieve pain. Since excess copper can contribute to toxicity, detoxification is essential. Include Guduchi (500 mg twice daily) to help remove excess heat and toxins while strengthening immunity. Daily warm herbal teas made with fennel, ginger, and cinnamon can improve digestion and reduce bloating. Long-term, maintaining a Pitta and Vata-balancing routine with a cooling, nourishing diet will help your body adjust to the Copper T while minimizing discomfort.
