Managing high fasting blood sugar can be challenging, especially when current treatments don’t seem to be working as expected. It’s crucial to address this with a comprehensive approach that looks beyond immediate symptoms to understand underlying issues. Your high fasting blood sugar and elevated c-peptide suggest insulin resistance, common in Type 2 diabetes. Let’s look at ways Ayurveda can play a role in management.
First, consider Ahar (diet). Simple carbohydrate intake needs reduction, as they increase blood sugar levels. Introduce more fibrous foods like whole grains (brown rice, quinoa), vegetables, and legumes, which help in regulating sugar. Fenugreek is known for its glucose-lowering properties; try soaking seeds overnight and consuming them on an empty stomach with water, around 30 minutes before breakfast.
Focus on your Dinacharya (daily routine) and Vyayama (exercise). Practicing physical activities like brisk walking or yoga for at least 30 minutes ensures better glucose metabolism. Yoga asanas like Trikonasana (Triangle Pose) and Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutations) help in improving insulin sensitivity, but gradual introduction is important.
Promote balance of Agni (digestive fire) by including spices like turmeric, cumin, and cinnamon in meals, aiding glucose control. Cinnamon, in particular, enhances insulin sensitivity.
Herbal formulations can offer further support. Guduchi (Tinospora cordifolia), a potent anti-diabetic herb, may be brewed as tea. Similarly, look into using Gymnema sylvestre, known as “Madhunashini,” which helps in reducing sugar levels. However, these require consistent long-term use and a practitioner’s guidance due to potential interactions with other meds.
Stress management, too, plays a role. Practices like Pranayama and meditation assist in reducing cortisol, a stress hormone affecting glucose levels negatively.
Lastly, maintain regular monitoring of your sugar levels and consult an endocrinologist. Balancing modern medicine with traditional practices is vital, but neither should replace necessary medical evaluations. It’s important to stay persistent and adaptive in treatment, as achieving balance can take varied approaches and time.
