Lately I just can’t keep my mind calm… All this tension building up between India and Pakistan is really messing with me. It's important to bring the focus back to the self, and Ayurveda can definitely help you find a bit more balance and calm in your everyday life. Your symptoms like the intense anxiety, pounding heart, and digestive upset are clearly signs of heightened Vata dosha, it's often aggravated during periods of worry and fear. Restlessness and sleeplessness are classic signs of Vata imbalance too, and when in excess, it throws our body and mind off balance. Firstly, settle the Vata, alright? Start with daily practices that ground you. Try abhyanga - self-massage with warm sesame oil before your shower in the morning. It'll help calm your nervous system and nourish your skin (which is also looking out for your agni, or digestive fire). After a warm shower, sit and sip a cup of warm ginger tea; it can stimulate your digestive fire and also calms your nerves. Diet-wise, stick to warm cooked meals. Avoid cold, raw, or leftover foods that can raise Vata. Focus on easy-to-digest options like khichdi or hearty soups, especially in the evening. Also, try to add a pinch of asafoetida and cumin to your meals - they're known for balancing digestion. For your mind, since there's a lot of stormy energy, include meditation and breathing exercises. Even a few minutes of deep breathing, ujjayi breaths daily can work wonders, can help center your mind. Yoga — grounding practices like child's pose or corpse pose are great; nothing too vigorous, as it's all about calming and grounding. For herbs, Ashwagandha can be very helpful for anxiety and bringing some energy balance. It’s been known for its adaptogenic properties. Try taking it in warm milk before bed. Also try brahmi for its soothing impact on the nerves. Consider limiting doomscrolling (I get it’s a habit at this point), but set times when you tune out the news.
