Predicting the course of Alzheimer’s disease is tricky, as it can progress at different rates for different individuals. While conventional treatment can help manage symptoms, Ayurveda can offer supportive strategies to improve quality of life and potentially slow progression, focusing on balancing Vata dosha which is often involved in neurodegenerative disorders.

Begin by incorporating Brahmi (Bacopa monnieri) into her daily routine, a renowned herb in Ayurveda for cognitive support. You can make a juice or use a powdered form, about 1-2 grams daily, ideally taken with a teaspoon of honey. It’s known to enhance memory and support brain functions.

Dietarily, emphasize on easily digestible foods, as having strong agni (digestive fire) is crucial for absorbing nutrients effectively. Incorporate warm cooked foods like kitchari, soups, and stews. Consider nuts and seeds like almonds and walnuts – soaked and peeled for easier digestion. They are rich in Omega-3 fatty acids beneficial for brain health.

Ensure she maintain a regular sleep schedule, as proper rest rejuvenates brain tissues. The use of Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) may help promote relaxation and good sleep. The powder can be mixed with warm milk before bed.

Daily routine is key. Encourage gentle exercises and yoga to enhance circulation; poses like Sarvangasana (shoulder stand) and Halasana (plow pose) are particularly beneficial. Meditation and pranayama (breathing exercises) can help manage stress and promote mental clarity.

Stay cautious about maintaining safety. Ensure home is free from potential hazards, and perhaps maintain a log of her daily activities. This can provide insight into any notable changes in her routine or behavior.

While we hope to support her life quality through these holistic approaches, it’s crucial to continue working alongside her healthcare provider. They can provide immediate care if her condition requires it. Always keep open communication with her doctors about any changes you make to her care regimen.
