which is best for hair growth - #23698

Scarlett

I am super confused and honestly a bit worried about my hair lately. I've always had pretty decent hair, but over the last few months, I've notice it thinning out a lot. Like, I’m finding more and more hair on my brush and in the shower! I don’t have any major health issues, but I did change my diet recently and went vegan. Maybe that’s part of the problem? My friend told me that certain herbs can really help, but I'm not sure which is best for hair growth. She mentioned things like bhringraj and amla, but I've seen other stuff pop up online too. I thought about trying oils, like coconut or castor, but idk if they’re really effective? I've been putting castor oil on my scalp and it feels nice but haven’t really noticed a big difference yet. If anyone could share experiences or tips on which is best for hair growth, I’d really appreciate it. Honestly, it’s got me a bit freaked out! Thank you!

It’s understandable to feel concerned about hair thinning, especially with changes in lifestyle such as adapting a vegan diet. Let’s explore some Ayurvedic perspectives and remedies that could support your hair growth.

Firstly, Ayurveda often addresses hair health by understanding your dosha balance. Thinning could, for instance, be related to a Vata imbalance, which could be exacerbated by dietary changes or stress. Such imbalances often result in dryness and brittleness of hair too.

Bhringraj and amla indeed have stood the test of traditional Ayurvedic remedies for promoting hair growth and health. Bhringraj is renowned for its rejuvenating properties and, when prepared as an oil, may be massaged onto the scalp, ideally at night. This could help nourish the scalp and enhance circulation.

Amla, rich in Vitamin C and antioxidants, is excellent for strengthening hair follicles. You might consider consuming amla in your diet or as a juice, or applying it in an oil form as a topical treatment on your hair.

Since you mentioned oils, castor oil is often praised for its ricinoleic acid that promotes healthy hair follicles. Regular application, coupled with a gentle massage, aligns with promoting blood circulation, although patience is key, as noticeable changes may take a few months. Coconut oil, on the other hand, can deeply condition the hair, keeping it hydrated, which complements the use of amla or bhringraj.

Considering your vegan transition, ensure you’re getting enough proteins, iron, and vitamins, particularly B12 and Omega-3 fatty acids, as deficiencies in these can also affect hair thickness. Incorporate legumes, quinoa, nuts, seeds, and leafy greens into your diet and, if needed, consult a nutrinionist for potential supplements.

Should the issue persist, consulting with a healthcare professional is recommended to rule out other underlying causes. However, adopting a holistic approach—balancing diet, lifestyle, and Ayurvedic remedies—can support an optimal environment for hair health. Keep monitoring any changes, and remember, consistency with Ayurveda often yields the best results over time.
