is ghee good for constipation - #25428

Christopher

I am really struggling with constipation, and I feel kinda lost. The past few weeks have been a nightmare—no matter what I eat, I'm just not able to go, and the discomfort is driving me mad! A friend mentioned that ghee might help, and I heard from somewhere that ghee is good for constipation, but I don't know if that's true or just some old wives' tale. My diet is mostly healthy, but I think I'm not getting enough healthy fats. Like, I've tried adding more fiber, but nothing seems to do the trick. I found out recently that ghee is supposed to be really nourishing, right? I mean, I’ve seen recipes all over that use it, and people rave about the benefits of ghee for digestion, so... is ghee good for constipation? Can I just take it straight or should I cook with it? I also worry if it’ll make things worse instead. Any advice would be super appreciated, because I just want to feel normal again!! Thanks in advance!!

Yes, ghee might indeed be helpful for constipation in certain situations, given its nourishing and lubricating properties according to Ayurveda. Ghee is highly regarded in Ayurvedic tradition for its ability to balance Vata dosha, which can often contribute to issues like constipation when imbalanced. It's considered helpful for promoting healthy digestion and can serve to lubricate the intestines, facilitating smoother bowel movements. For incorporating ghee to address constipation, you might consider consuming about 1-2 teaspoons of ghee on an empty stomach. You could mix with warm water or milk, preferably first thing in the morning. This approach can help stimulate the digestive process and may alleviate constipation over time. Make sure the milk is at a comfortable temperature to aid in its absorption. Be sure consume a balanced amount and increase water intake, to avoid counterproductive effects. In your regular cooking, replacing some of your cooking oils with ghee might be beneficial too. It's stable at high temperatures and thus suitable for various culinary uses. Plus, it enhances the flavor and nourishment of meals. However, if ghee alone doesn't seem to resolve the issue, it can be worthwhile to assess additional factors like your hydration levels, the types and amount of fibers in your diet, and physical activity. Sometimes constipation can signal underlying conditions that may need different attention, so persistent issues merit speaking with a healthcare provider. Besides, remember everybody's system reacts differently, and it's possible that depending on your unique constitution (prakriti) and any dosha imbalances, different approaches may be necessary. Consult with an Ayurvedic practitioner who can provide more personalized guidance if needed.
