how to reduce hirsutism naturally - #25473

Elijah

I am struggling with this annoying issue of hirsutism for a while now. I’ve noticed way more hair on my face and even on my arms and back, which is totally embarrassing. Feels like I’ve tried everything! Recently, I read something about how to reduce hirsutism naturally, and honestly, I’m super curious. Last month, I went to an endocrinologist who told me it could be related to my hormones, but I’d rather avoid taking more meds if possible. I did changes with my diet - started eating more whole foods and cut out a bunch of processed stuff. I’m even doing yoga and trying to manage my stress since I think that might help? Every now and then, I hear people mention herbs or supplements - like spearmint tea or even something called saw palmetto. Is anyone having success with these? Like, how to reduce hirsutism naturally? Any tips or experiences? Would love to hear what worked for you or what you think might do the trick!

Doctors’ responses

When dealing with hirsutism through Ayurveda, it's about understanding your body's constitution and balancing the doshas, primarily focusing on Kapha and Pitta imbalances. Your approach to diet and lifestyle changes is spot on, and you're on the right track with incorporating whole foods and stress management. Yoga indeed helps balance the doshas, especially by reducing stress-induced aggravations which can often contribute to hormonal imbalances. You mentioned interest in herbs like spearmint and saw palmetto. Spearmint tea has demonstrated some potential in lowering androgen levels, which can be beneficial for hirsutism. A cup or two a day could be tried, but always observe how your body responds. Saw palmetto is another herb cited for supporting hormonal balance, tho I'd advise consulting a practitioner who knows your medical history before adding this to your routine, as it can interact with other treatments. An Ayurveda-centric dietary approach can also help. Incorporate cooling foods to balance Pitta, such as cucumber, melons, and leafy greens. Also, avoid spicy, acidic, and overly salty foods, as they can exacerbate Pitta. Lesser processed dairy, sweet fruits, and grains like oats or basmati rice can help calm Kapha as well. Regular exercise is crucial and sounds like you’re already on that path with yoga. Consider adding breathing exercises, Pranayama, particularly Anulom Vilom, to further reduce stress. Attempt to follow a regular sleep schedule, as lack of proper rest can disrupt hormonal balances. Topical applications using Ayurvedic remedies can also be what you’re looking for. Consider making a paste from turmeric and chickpea flour with a bit of lemon juice, applying this to areas with excess hair, letting it sit for a short while before washing off. This may help inhibit hair growth when done consistently. If symptoms persist, or you're facing additional discomfort, seeking guidance from an Ayurvedic practitioner for a more personalized treatment might be beneficial. Remember everyone's body respond differently, and what works for others might need fine-tuning in your case.
