SDM Triphala Choorna - #35494

Lucy

I am really struggling lately with my digestive health and I’m hoping someone can help. A few months ago, I started feeling bloated all the time, and let me tell you, it’s been really uncomfortable. I tried different diets and over-the-counter meds, but nothing worked! A friend of mine mentioned SDM Triphala Choorna, saying it's a natural remedy that can help with digestion and detoxification. I decided to give it a shot, thinking “what’s the worst that could happen?” But after a week of taking it, I'm not sure if it’s helping or if I’m just mentally convincing myself. I feel slightly better some days, but I also have had moments where the bloating just hits me like a ton of bricks again! Has anyone else tried SDM Triphala Choorna for digestive issues? I also wonder if I should be changing how I'm taking it or maybe the dosage. I read somewhere it can be used for detoxing too? Is that something I should be focusing on or is it overkill right now given my main issue? Dunno if I'm taking too much or not enough... any advice would be appreciated! Thanks!

Doctors' responses

Triphala Choorna can indeed be beneficial for digestion, as it’s known for balancing Vata, Pitta, and Kapha doshas and supporting the digestive process. It is primarily made of three fruits: Amalaki, Bibhitaki, and Haritaki, which promote digestive health by enhancing Agni, the digestive fire, and alleviating issues related to digestion like bloating or constipation. If you’ve just started on it, keep in mind that Ayurvedic formulations might take some time, so assessing its effects after just a week may be a bit premature.

Regarding dosage, it’s crucial to tailor it based on your unique constitution (prakriti) and the current state of your digestive fire. Generally, about 1-2 teaspoons mixed with warm water, taken before bedtime, is a standard approach for many. However, this can vary. Ensure you start with the lower end of the dosage spectrum, see how your body responds, and then adjust based on your comfort and need. A mild adjustment—by slightly increasing or decreasing the amount—might be required based on how you feel over several days.

Given your descriptions of significant bloating, it might be helpful to also look into your diet and daily habits broadly. Avoid foods that are overly heavy, fried, or rich in dairy, especially at night. Opt for lighter, warm foods like well-cooked vegetables and whole grains. Additionally, sipping warm water or herbal teas throughout the day can support digestive ease.

On the detoxification front, while Triphala does help cleanse, doing an extensive detox might not be necessary immediately unless your symptoms are believed to stem from significant accumulation of Ama (toxins). Instead, prioritizing a balanced, easily digestible diet and regular routine should be primary. Keeping stress levels in check, through practices like deep breathing or yoga, can also proved to be beneficial.

If the bloating doesn’t resolve or worsens, consider consulting with an Ayurvedic practitioner who can offer specific insights into your prakriti and what might be aggravating your symptoms. If symptoms are severe or increasingly uncomfortable, further medical evaluation might be needed. Always listen to your body and ensure any remedy or regimen aligns with how you feel over time.

SDM Triphala Choorna is quite well-known in traditional Ayurvedic practices for supporting digestion and detoxification. It’s a blend of three fruits: Amalaki, Bibhitaki, and Haritaki. Each has its own properties that synergize to help balance the doshas and improve digestive health. It’s great to know you’re considering this natural approach, yet it appears there’s a need to fine-tune its use for your specific situation, especially given your ongoing bloating.

Firstly, with digestive issues like bloating, it’s crucial to consider your agni, or digestive fire. Triphala can indeed enhance agni by clearing excess doshas, but the balance in intake is key. It’s best taken one teaspoon with warm water, either at night before bed or first thing in the morning. Starting with a lower amount, like half a teaspoon, might be a good idea if you’re experiencing variable effects.

Regarding detoxification, while Triphala aids in cleansing the colon and supporting regularity, aggressive detoxing isn’t always necessary when the primary issue is digestive upset like bloating. Focus instead on balance and supporting digestion. Incorporate warm, easily digestible foods — think well-cooked vegetables and soups — to ease the digestive process and reduce discomfort. Avoid cold, raw foods and heavy meats as they can aggravate your current symptoms.

If you’re experiencing severe symptoms continuously, it’s advisable to seek further medical advice. Persistant bloating can sometimes indicate an underlying condition that might need attention. Keep your eyes on the symptoms and if the effects seem adverse or don’t improve after a reasonable period, consulting a healthcare professional is wise. Adjustments in dosage or method should be made with caution and tailored to how your body responds.
