what is the side effects of masturbation - #37700

Logan

I am a bit confused and honestly worried about something that’s been on my mind for a while now. Lately, I've noticed that after I... um, engage in masturbation, I feel kinda strange. It's like I have these sudden mood swings or get super tired afterwards. I mean, I’ve read a lot about what is the side effects of masturbation online, but it's all so contradictory! Some say it’s totally normal while others make it sound like it’s a big deal. Sometimes I even get this weird guilt trip right after, and I can’t shake off this heavy feeling in my chest. Like, am I doing something wrong?! I used to think about it casually, but now I wonder, what really is the side effects of masturbation? Is there a chance it could affect my health long-term? Obviously, I'm not looking for a lecture or anything, just really trying to understand if I need to change something in my life or if it’s all fine. Anyone else feel like this? Help me out, please, I kinda need some clarity here before I spiral too deep into this rabbit hole of worry!

Masturbation is a natural activity and, in moderation, generally doesn’t have long-term negative effects on health. However, when practiced excessively, it might amplify certain imbalances in your body and mind. In Ayurveda, a holistic perspective is crucial. Masturbation involves the release of vital energy, known as ‘ojas’, which supports vitality and immunity. Excessive loss can sometimes lead to debility, fatigue, and reduced concentration, especially if your lifestyle or diet doesn’t support recovery and balance.

Emotional fluctuations like mood swings, guilt, or anxiety following masturbation can stem from a deeper mental and emotional conflict. Feelings of guilt are often rooted in societal or personal perceptions, and it’s important to separate these from the act itself. Ayurveda suggests keeping the mind balanced by engaging in activities that promote contentment and mental clarity, like meditation or yoga.

From a practical viewpoint, try to observe frequency and introspect about whether it disrupts your daily life or mood. If not, occasional masturbation isn’t typically harmful. Ayurvedic texts often suggest moderation and mindfulness in all actions as vital practices. You could incorporate herbs like ashwagandha or shatavari which are known to help maintain balance and enhance strength and peace of mind. Also, supporting digestion with warm, easy-to-digest foods and taking ample rest can be very grounding.

Importantly, if guilt or anxiety persists, it might be helpful to reflect on the underlying reasons or seek supportive counseling. If these feelings escalate or affect your quality of life, it’s crucial to reach out to a mental health professional.

Your lifestyle habits also play a huge role—ensure you’re getting enough physical activity and following a routine that includes wholesome, nourishing foods that suit your constitution or prakriti. Engaging in relaxing practices can help balance your emotions and energies, transforming the experience into one without the layers of negative feelings.

Remember that every individual is unique and what affects one person might not affect another in the same way. Consider your body and mind’s signals as a guide, listen to them, and adjust your habits accordingly. It’s all about finding that optimal balance for you!
