Dry eye and cataracts may seem like unrelated issues, but they require careful attention before cataract surgery can be performed. To manage dry eye, Ayurveda recommends addressing the root cause by understanding the dosha imbalance, usually involving Vata and Pitta.
For dry eyes, start by incorporating Triphala Ghrita in your routine. This herbal ghee helps in nourishing the ocular tissues and pacifying the aggravated doshas. Take about half a teaspoon of Triphala Ghrita with warm water, preferably in the morning on an empty stomach. To complement this, you could apply Anu Taila as nasal drops. Instill 2 drops in each nostril in the morning; this helps in lubricating the upper respiratory tract and affects eye moisture.
Gently wash your eyes with Triphala decoction. Boil a teaspoon of Triphala in water and let it cool to a lukewarm temperature. Use the strained liquid to wash your eyes twice daily, it provides local relief and supports eye health.
Diet plays an important role in managing eye health. Include ghee and milk in your diet, as they are soothing and nourishing. Avoid excessive spicy foods and reduce caffeine, which can aggravate dryness by their heating properties.
Also, maintaining regular sleep patterns and reducing screen time help in alleviating eye strain. Practicing eye exercises like Palming (covering your closed eyes with your palms) gives rest to your eyes.
Since you need to get your cataracts assessed, consult an ophthalmologist. Advanced cataracts may need surgical intervention, so align your Ayurveda practice with their medical advice to ensure readiness for any necessary surgery. Remember, the holistic approach is crucial, but do not delay necessary medical consultations for cataracts; these could lead to significant vision issues if not addressed timely.
Ensure you follow these steps regularly and monitor your symptoms. If your dry eye condition does not improve, please seek further evaluation from a healthcare professional.
