what is the reason of skin allergy - #39156
I am dealing with this really annoying and frustrating skin allergy for the past few weeks. At first, I thought it was just some random rash or something but it’s gotten way worse. It started with a few red patches on my arms and then they began itching like crazy! I went to a doctor who mentioned something about how it could be food-related but didn’t really give me a solid answer. I tried to keep track of what I was eating but honestly, I have no clue what is triggering this. I've tried some over-the-counter creams, and they helped a bit, but it keeps coming back. I mean, I don't know if grains or nuts are the culprits!? What is the reason of skin allergy anyway? Is it really food or environmental factors?? Sometimes, I think it could be the laundry detergent I switched to recently or even the new soap. Can anyone share if they’ve experienced similar? And what is the reason of skin allergy in your case? It feels like I’m on this wild goose chase trying to figure it out, and I kinda need some guidance. Thanks in advance, really hope to hear from the experts here!

Doctors' responses
Skin allergies can be perplexing, and they often arise from a variety of factors, both internal and external. From an Ayurvedic perspective, imbalances in the doshas (Vata, Pitta, Kapha) can lead to skin disorders. Skin allergies often occur due to an aggravated Pitta dosha, which governs heat and metabolism in the body. An exacerbated Pitta can lead to inflammation and itching associated with allergic reactions. However, Vata imbalances may also contribute to dryness, while Kapha imbalances might create excess oiliness, impacting your skin’s condition alongside the allergic reactions.
Externally, allergens like certain foods, chemicals, or environmental elements can exacerbate these imbalances. Foods like spicy items, sour yogurt, fermented products, or even nuts might trigger allergies in a Pitta-prone individual by further heating the body. Environmental factors such as dust mites, pollen, or even new products such as soaps or detergents are known to irritate the skin as well.
To address this, consider restoring balance with cooling, Pitta-pacifying foods in your diet like cucumbers, sweet fruits, and leafy greens. Avoid hot, spicy, and fried foods. Similarly, watch your exposure to new or harsh chemicals in household products. Opt for natural, hypoallergenic items whenever possible, they’re less likely to irritate sensitive skin.
For topical relief, use soothing agents like aloe vera gel or coconut oil gently on the affected areas; their natural cooling properties may offer immediate relief. A paste made from sandalwood powder and rose water may soothe redness and itching — apply it to affected areas and rinse after twenty minutes.
Monitor your digestive health too, as poor digestion can lead to toxin accumulation (ama) that manifests as skin issues. Herbal teas made from fennel, coriander, and cumin can aid digestion and reduce heat.
If persistent, it’s critical to consult a specialist. They can provide customized advice tailored to your Prakriti and unique health concerns. Sudden or severe reactions require immediate medical attention, as allergies may lead to complications like rashes or respiratory issues. Explore both dietary and environmental triggers, but prioritize medical intervention swiftly if symptoms escalate.
