An enlarged prostate, especially at 140 grams, with high PSA levels requires a comprehensive Ayurvedic approach focusing on reducing inflammation, supporting urinary flow, and balancing Vata and Kapha doshas. Herbs like Gokshura (Tribulus terrestris) and Varuna (Crataeva nurvala) are known for their effectiveness in reducing prostate size and promoting smooth urine flow. Chandraprabha Vati and Shilajit can also be beneficial, as they help improve urinary function and reduce inflammation. Additionally, Kanchanar Guggulu supports glandular health and may benefit both the prostate and thyroid by promoting circulation and clearing stagnation. A decoction of Punarnava (Boerhaavia diffusa) taken twice daily can help reduce swelling and aid in urinary flow, potentially helping with catheter removal over time. Alongside these, external application of warm castor oil or Sahacharadi Taila on the lower abdomen and pelvic region, followed by a warm compress, can aid in relieving discomfort and inflammation. Dietary modifications are essential; avoid foods that can aggravate Kapha, such as dairy, red meat, and heavy or fried foods. Instead, favor a diet with plenty of fresh vegetables, whole grains, and mild spices like cumin and coriander, which aid in reducing urinary retention. Practicing gentle pelvic exercises or Asanas like Mool Bandha (root lock) under supervision can improve circulation in the prostate area. Given the longstanding thyroid swelling, monitoring both thyroid and prostate health regularly with an Ayurvedic practitioner is advised, ensuring no herb interactions occur with other treatments or conditions. While progress may be gradual, consistent use of these therapies can potentially improve urinary function and reduce the need for surgical intervention.

For managing an enlarged prostate (benign prostatic hyperplasia, BPH) and elevated PSA levels in Ayurveda, a holistic approach is essential, especially since you've indicated a reluctance for surgical options. Below are some Ayurvedic recommendations that may help alleviate symptoms and potentially allow for catheter removal. However, it's crucial to consult with a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner for personalized treatment and monitoring after careful examination. Ayurvedic Herbs and Formulations Gokshura (Tribulus terrestris): This herb is traditionally used to support urinary health and may help reduce prostate size. A typical dosage is 1-2 teaspoons of Gokshura powder, taken with warm water or milk, twice daily. Pumpkin Seed Oil: Rich in phytosterols, pumpkin seed oil is beneficial for prostate health. Taking 1-2 teaspoons daily can help improve urinary function and support prostate health. Kanchanara Guggulu: This formulation is used to support thyroid and prostate health. It can help manage symptoms of prostate enlargement. The usual dosage is 1-2 tablets, taken twice daily with warm water after meals. Chandraprabha Vati: This is beneficial for urinary tract health and can help relieve urinary symptoms associated with prostate enlargement. A typical dosage is 1-2 tablets, taken twice daily. Dietary and Lifestyle Recommendations Hydration: Drink plenty of water throughout the day to help flush the urinary system. However, limit fluid intake in the evening to reduce nighttime urination. Anti-inflammatory Diet: Focus on a diet rich in antioxidants, including fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, nuts, and seeds. Avoid processed foods, excessive fats, and sugars. Spices: Incorporate anti-inflammatory spices like turmeric and ginger into your meals. Turmeric contains curcumin, which has shown promise in reducing inflammation. Regular Exercise: Engage in gentle exercises like walking or yoga to promote circulation and overall health, which can aid in managing prostate health. Stress Management: Practices like yoga, meditation, and pranayama can help manage stress, which may indirectly benefit prostate health.
