does masturbation decrease height - #39413

Scarlett

I am 16 and have been very curious about some stuff. I heard from a friend that does masturbation decrease height, and honestly, I'm kind of worried. I’m a bit on the shorter side already, like 5'4", and I really want to grow taller. I've noticed lately that when I feel stressed or just bored, I tend to do it more. I don’t feel bad about it, but now I keep thinking, “What if this is messing with my growth?” My older brother says it doesn’t affect height at all, but some websites say different things. Like, do people actually believe this? It feels like a lot of mixed messages. I've read articles suggesting it has hormonal impacts or whatever, impacting growth plates and all that. I’m just trying to figure out the truth in this. I’m also trying to eat healthily and exercise more, thinking that’ll help, but if this habit is really getting in the way, that’s super worrying. Also, I can't help but wonder if the stress about this might be affecting my growth too. Any thoughts or experiences would really help! Thanks!

Masturbation does not decrease height. There’s no scientific or ayurvedic basis to believe that masturbation impacts your growth or height negatively. It’s a misconception and a myth that’s been circulating for quite a while. Growth in height is primarily determined by genetic factors and the state of your growth plates—areas of growing tissues at the ends of long bones in children and adolescents. These plates are sensitive to hormones, but masturbation does not influence these hormones in a way that affects height.

You’ve mentioned you’re feeling stressed sometimes, and it’s common to seek ways to relieve stress, especially in adolescence. If you find that its becoming a habit or you are worried about it, consider redirecting your energy into activities that boost overall wellness. Ayurveda often recommends exercises like yoga and meditation to maintain a balance between mind and body. For growth specifically, ensure a balanced intake of nutritious food (rich in essential vitamins and minerals), get adequate sleep and stay physically active. Teas containing ashwagandha or shatavari can promote healthy growth as these are kown to balance hormones and promote tissue growth.

It’s good that you’re aiming to maintain a healthy diet and exercise—this truly supports your natural growth process. Aim for plenty of green vegetables, whole grains and high-protein foods like beans and lentils. Also, dairy products like milk and yogurt are excellent for bone health. Along with diet, ensure you are participating in growth-stimulating exercises like stretching, swimming, or basketball can be helpful.

Stress can indeed have an impact on health, so if you continue feeling anxious about these habits, it might be worth discussing your feelings with someone you trust or a healthcare provider. Stress-reduction practices are essential, consider Ayurveda-recommended Pranayama (breathing exercises) and regular outdoor activities, even talking walks in nature can be greatly beneficial.

Remember, these tips must harmonize with your natural lifestyle and it’s crucial to listen to your body. Developing a routine that complements your growth and well-being while focusing on overall health is key, rather than getting worried about these myths surrounding height and masturbation.

Masturbation does not affect height. There isn’t any scientific evidence or traditional Siddha-Ayurvedic concept that supports the idea that it can halt growth or reduce height. Your height is mainly influenced by genetics and nutrition, not by whether you engage in masturbation. Concerns like hormonal impacts or growth plate interference aren’t grounded in medical reality. Growth during adolescence occurs due to hormones independent of such habits.

Stressing over this misconception might cause unnecessary anxiety, which is not helpful for your overall well-being. Instead, ensure your lifestyle supports growth. Eating balanced, nutrient-dense foods rich in essential vitamins and minerals like Vitamin D, calcium, and proteins are crucial. Yoga and specific asanas, such as Tadasana or Trikonasana, can also aid in aligning the body, potentially supporting optimal growth in some people.

From an Ayurvedic view, maintaining tridoshic balance is essential for growth and health. Focus on a diet and routine that balances your doshas — vata, pitta, and kapha — will support you best complementarily. Regular exercise, like swimming or cycling, can be beneficial. Make sure you have enough restful sleep, as the body releases growth hormones during deep sleep.

If stress is a factor, simple pranayama (breathing exercises) can help calm the mind and promote relaxation. Addressing stress is crucial as it can indirectly impact your overall health. Remember, growth happens naturally through these years, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle is your best approach. If you have persistent concerns about your growth, consulting a healthcare professional familiar with adolescent growth specifics can help clarify any issues.
