how to remove phobia from mind - #41980

Victoria

I am struggling with something that feels really heavy. There’s this phobia I have that’s getting in the way of my life. Like, even the idea of elevators makes me panic – I mean, last week I was at the mall, and just because my friends wanted to use an elevator, I freaked out and took the stairs, huffing and puffing all the way up. I feel so embarassed when that happens! I know it sounds silly to some people, but I can’t seem to control this terror anymore. I’ve read a bunch about how to remove phobia from mind, but nothing seems to help. I’m anxious all the time thinking about situations where I might be trapped or something... what if I’m stuck in a closed space? Ugh. I don’t want this to control me!! Is there any specific ayurvedic approach or herbs that can help ease this fear? Like, how to remove phobia from mind naturally? I really just want to live without this constant weight on me. Is there any diet changes or meditation techniques you guys recommend? I feel like I’ve tried everything else, but I really want to hear your thoughts! Thanks in advance!

Phobias can indeed be overwhelming, and in Ayurveda, they’re seen as a result of mental and physical imbalances, often linked to aggravated Vata dosha, which controls movement and the nervous system. To address this, let’s consider a few practical strategies.

Start by incorporating Brahmi and Ashwagandha into your daily routine. Brahmi is a revered rasayana known for enhancing cognition and calming the mind, while Ashwagandha is an adaptogen that helps manage stress levels. You can take these as powders mixed with warm milk or water every morning and evening. Consistency will be key here, so try to maintain this practice for at least a couple of months to observe noticeable results.

Diet is also crucial. Focus on Vata-pacifying foods to promote grounding and calmness. Warm, cooked meals like soups and stews, seasoned with digestive spices such as cumin, coriander, and ginger, can help stabilize your nervous system. Try to avoid raw, cold, or dry foods that can aggravate Vata.

Mindfulness meditation or yoga are invaluable tools for anxiety and fear management. Spend at least 10-15 minutes each day engaging in deep breathing exercises or practicing simple asanas which focus on grounding, such as Tadasana (Mountain Pose) or Viparita Karani (Legs Up the Wall Pose). These activities can aid in pinvoking a state of relaxation and bringing mental clarity.

Avoid overstimulation from digital devices, especially before bedtime, as this can exacerbate anxiety. Establish a regular sleep schedule and create a peaceful nighttime ritual, maybe a warm bath infused with soothing oils like lavender or sandalwood.

Should you find that these strategies do not provide relief, it’s crucial to seek guidance from an Ayurvedic practitioner who can provide personalized recommendations or consider incorporating conventional therapies, as sometimes a multidisciplinary approach is most effective. Remember that progress may take time, so patience and persistence are necessary companions in your healing journey.
