Green phlegm often indicates an infection or the presence of bacteria, which suggests that your respiratory system might require additional care. From an Ayurvedic standpoint, this condition is often associated with an imbalance in the Kapha dosha, which governs mucus and the stability element in our bodies.
First, there’s the importance of diet. Avoid dairy products such as milk and cheese, which can increase Kapha, leading to more mucus production. Instead, opt for warm foods like ginger tea, which has anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. Simply brew fresh ginger slices in hot water and drink it two to three times a day. Include spices like black pepper, turmeric and cinnamon in your meals; they can help reduce mucus and boost your immunity.
Incorporate Pranayama, specifically Kapalabhati and Anulom Vilom, into your daily routine, as these breathing exercises can help clear the respiratory channels. Practice these for 5-10 minutes each day, preferably in the morning on an empty stomach.
Consider herbal decoctions. Tulsi (holy basil) is beneficial; boil 10-15 leaves in water, let it steep for 10 minutes, then drink twice daily. Licorice root tea, known for soothing the throat and easing coughing, can also be helpful.
Lifestyle adjustments include staying warm, avoiding cold drafts, and humidifying your living space. Steam inhalation is another effective method; you can add a few drops of eucalyptus oil to the steaming water to enhance its benefits.
However, remember this serious issue could warrant immediate medical attention, especially if the phlegm persists or worsens. Contact a healthcare provider promptly for comprehensive management. Combining Ayurveda with conventional medical advice offers you the best of both worlds.
