Doctors' responses

Allergic rhinitis with daily runny nose, cough, and sneezing points to possible vata and kapha imbalance, an excessive kapha can increase mucus in the nose. Focusing on balancing these doshas might help alleviate your symptoms.

Start your day with Nasya - administer 2-3 drops of Anu taila or sesame oil in each nostril early morning. This can help in lubricating and clearing the nasal passages. It is suggested to perform this after a warm shower when nasal passages are clear. Drink warm water with a pinch of ginger and a squeeze of lemon, this aids in pacifying vata and kapha.

Consider incorporating Trikatu churna (a combination of ginger, black pepper, and long pepper) - take it in small quantities, about 1/2 teaspoon with honey before meals. This helps improve digestion and reduce excess kapha. Be cautious if you have any stomach issues, as trikatu can be hot in nature.

For diet, reduce consumption of cold, oily, and heavy foods. Opt for warm, light meals that are easy to digest. Including vegetables like spinach, carrots; spices like cumin, coriander and ginger in diet can support balancing. Reduce dairy intake, as it might aggravate kapha and mucus production.

Practicing Pranayama like Anulom Vilom and Kapalbhati in morning can also be beneficial. It may improve lung capacity and keep nasal passages clear. Aim for 10 to 15 minutes of these breathing exercises daily.

Avoid exposure to dust and allergens as much as possible. Clean living spaces regularly to minimize allergens. Keeping this routine might require a bit of time to see effect, but staying consistent helps. If symptoms persist or worsen, please consult an Ayurvedic practitioner for personalized care.
