For vitamin B12 and D3 deficiency, especially in vegetarians, identifying the root cause and implementing practical solutions is crucial. Begin by addressing B12 deficiency by including fortified foods such as plant-based milks (e.g. almond or soy milk), breakfast cereals, and nutritional yeast in your diet—check labels to ensure they’re fortified with B12. Consuming these regularly will gradually improve B12 levels. Additionally, consider taking a high-quality B12 supplement, opt for cyanocobalamin or methylcobalamin tablets, preferably starting with 500-1000 mcg a few times a week, but it’s important to speak with your healthcare provider to tailor the dosage to your specific needs.

For vitamin D3, the primary source is sunlight. Aim for 15-20 minutes of sun exposure daily, ideally between 10 am and 3 pm without sunscreen, expose more skin if possible, but ensure not to burn. If sunlight exposure is limited, supplements may be necessary. Look for D3 supplements derived from lichens or algae as they are suitable for vegetarians. The common dosage is about 1000-2000 IU daily, but again, it is advisable to have your levels checked and consult with a healthcare provider for an appropriate dosage.

In terms of Ayurvedic practices, focusing on enhancing your agni (digestive fire) will support nutrient absorption. Start your day with a glass of warm water with lemon, promoting digestion and absorption throughout the day. Add spices like cumin, coriander, and fennel in your meals to support digestion. Manage stress through practice like yoga or meditation, as stress can exacerbate deficiencies and fatigue. Monitor your energy levels and overall well-being after implementing these changes, adjusting as necessary, stay consistent for real results over time.
