Managing Acne Flare-Ups Before My Period - #46177

Client_388e0c

Hello. I am a late teen female, and I have been having acne issues ever since I hit puberty. Currently I don't have full blown acne covering my whole face, but you can call them flares (just 5-6 at a time). The pimples are red, inflamed and a few are tender. Only my face is affected (no neck, chest or back). Mostly papules and one pustule at a time. I get them throughout the month along with some clearer days. The rest of the month is variable but the week before my period they are constant. Other triggers I have noticed are certain foods like nonveg, fried foods and chocolates. I don't experience any other period symptoms like cramping, breast tenderness, excessive bleeding etc. It is just the pimples that bother me as they make me frustrated and even cry. So, I need guidance in how to manage them. Thank you.

How long have you been experiencing acne issues?:

- 1-2 years

Hello, The following will help: 1. Rakta Shodhaka(swadeshi) 20ml----0-----20ml by adding 20 ml of boiled cooled water for 60 days. 2. Eladi soap(nagarjuna) for face

(Rakta shodhaka balances the skin issues which is due to hormones as it works at the level of liver and blood).

Take care, Kind regards.

From an Ayurvedic perspective, acne flare-ups, especially before menstruation, could be related to an imbalance of the Pitta dosha, which governs heat and transformation in the body. During this time, Pitta can become aggravated, resulting in inflammation and redness typical of acne. To manage these flare-ups more effectively, we can take a closer look at diet, lifestyle, and some specific practices that can help pacify Pitta and support your skin.

Diet plays a crucial role in balancing Pitta. Since you’ve identified triggers like non-veg foods, fried items, and chocolates, it’s beneficial to reduce these, especially a week before your period. Opt instead for cooling and soothing foods such as cucumber, zucchini, and leafy greens. Incorporating herbal teas made from hibiscus or mint can supply added cooling effects. Try including more whole grains like barley and rice, which are light on digestive system.

Hydration is key. Ensure you drink enough water throughout day to support your skin’s health. Coconut water is a great choice to naturally cool Pitta down. Try to avoid spicy, sour, and overly salty foods that can spur on Pitta imbalances.

Lifestyle changes can also aid in managing Pitta-related acne. Try to establish a consistent sleep schedule, aiming for 7-8 hours per night, as irregular sleep can worsen Pitta imbalance. Regular practice of cooling yoga poses, like forward bends and cobra pose, can also assist in balancing Pitta.

In terms of daily skin care, avoid harsh chemical products and choose natural, cooling ingredients. Applying fresh aloe vera gel can soothe inflammation and promote healing. Also, try making a paste of sandalwood powder and rose water to apply to the affected areas; this can help calm redness and reduce irritation.

Meditation and deep breathing exercises can be particularly useful in managing stress, which often aggravates acne. Even just 10 minutes a day can make a significant difference. Finally, maintaining regular bowel movements are essential. Triphala can be helpful in keeping the digestive fire balanced, aiding in the elimination of toxins.

Implement these steps over a period of time, and you should notice an improvement. However, if acne continues to be severe, consultation with a local Ayurvedic practitioner for personalized treatment is advised.
