Doctors’ responses
Your prolonged stomach issues, characterized by alternating diarrhea and constipation, as well as weight loss, suggest a significant imbalance in your digestive system, potentially indicating a condition known as Grahani in Ayurveda. This condition affects the ability of the intestines to absorb nutrients effectively, leading to malabsorption, which can result in weight loss and digestive distress.
To address your symptoms, it’s crucial to adopt a holistic approach that includes dietary modifications, herbal remedies, and lifestyle changes. Start by focusing on a Pitta-pacifying and easily digestible diet. Incorporate warm, cooked foods such as khichdi (a mix of rice and lentils), soups, and steamed vegetables. Avoid cold, raw foods, and heavy, fried, or processed items, as they can aggravate your condition.
Incorporate digestive-supportive herbs like Triphala for its gentle laxative effects and to promote overall gut health. Ajwain (carom seeds) or Hing (asafoetida) can be helpful in managing gas and improving digestion when taken with warm water before meals. Ginger tea can also soothe the digestive tract and stimulate appetite.
Staying well-hydrated is vital, so drink plenty of warm water and herbal teas throughout the day. Additionally, eating small, frequent meals instead of larger ones may help manage symptoms better. Regular physical activity, such as walking or gentle yoga, can also aid digestion and improve overall well-being.
Hello Raja, these are typical symptoms of Grahani This denotes poor Agni according to Ayurveda. Firstly avoid all bakery products, raw vegetables, excessive fruits, sweet items, dairy, non veg and processed food. Have only liquid diet as soup or kanji for few days. After 10 days you can add ghee to the kanji. Have cabbage soup everyday for dinner. Take CCF tea 2-3 times per day. Tab Shaddharan 1/4 tab four times daily before food, Tab Amruttottaram 1/4 tab four times after food. Tablet Grahani Kuthar Rasa 2 tabs on empty stomach in the morning. Do this for a month and note the changes . You can follow up with me after that.
Sounds like you’re having a rough time with your stomach, and I can imagine how frustrating that might be. From an Ayurvedic perspective, what you’re describing could be a sign of irregularity in your digestive fire, or agni, which is crucial in breaking down food properly. This inconsistency might also be coupled with Vata imbalance, which can definitely mess up digestion, leading to symptoms like diarrhea, constipation, and weight loss.
First thing first, we gotta calm that Vata imbalance. Try starting your day with warm water and a splash of lemon juice—it’s simple but really helps kick-start digestion. Avoid cold drinks and foods; warm, freshly cooked meals are ideal. Think soups, stews, and cooked veggies. Adding more favor, warmth and oiliness help so much in pacifying Vata issues.
Spices like ginger, cumin, and fennel can also be magic workers. You can prepare a tea by boiling them in water for about 10 minutes and sip on this through the day. Really soothing!
Eat regularly, 3 meals a day, no snacking in between which disrupts digestion. When you eat, make sure you’re doing it with focus—no distractions like TV or phones. This mindfulness has a way of bettering digestion (we often don’t notice this!)
And before I forget, check your stress levels. Vata loves chaos, so if you’re stressed, it’ll feed off that anxiety. Maybe explore a regular practice of yoga or meditation for just 15 mins a day to gently bring your body and mind back into balance.
Of course, since it’s been ongoing, it would be a wise to consult an healthcare provider for a comprehensive diagnosis and follow through any medical advice given. Important not to ignore serious symptoms or delay seeking professional help. With the blend of Ayurveda and proper medical consultation, you can restore that balance and feel better!
