Concern about slow healing of balanitis after antifungal treatment - #49683
hi Dr. I am dealing with balanitis for almost 4 months now. It all started from a friction during sex. Then I realised next day I had pain after urination and a little red wound on my penis. I kind of ignored that and thought, maybe it would resolve on its own, but it got worse, and I went to emergency. They gave me a antibacterial cream, which is Mupirocin 2%. For two weeks which gave me relief, but after a week, all the symptoms came back, then I went to another doctor. He said it’s fungus so he gave me another cream which is ketoconazole 2% for three weeks which gave me relief, but it didn’t fully cure the symptoms, and then I went back to him. He gave me oral antifungal fluconazole once a week for six weeks, . I had six tablets. Now it’s been a month now i am off all the medications and all the symptoms, kind of gone. Like there is no pain, no redness and no discharge, but the meatus swelling is still there It kind of went down a bit, but it’s very reactive. When I wash it. It becomes like a little red and puff. Then it settle down during the day, but I am kind of concerned that do I need more anti fungal until it fully resolves, but the infection symptoms like I don’t have any right now, and wanted to does it really take that long to heal. its healing very slowly and getting irritating over little things. doesn’t now what should i do.

Causes of Penis Yeast Infection Penis yeast infection, medically termed candidal balanitis, occurs due to an overgrowth of candida fungus. Several factors contribute to this overgrowth, including: 1. Impaired Immune System: Individuals with compromised immune systems are at a higher risk of developing penis infections. Conditions such as diabetes, which weaken the immune response, elevate susceptibility. 2. Unprotected Sexual Activities: Engaging in unprotected sexual intercourse with a partner who has a vaginal yeast infection can facilitate the transmission of candida to the penis. 3. Poor Hygiene: Inadequate genital hygiene creates an environment conducive to fungal growth, increasing the likelihood of infection. 4. Obesity: Obesity is linked to a higher incidence of candida overgrowth, making obese individuals more prone to developing yeast infections. 5. Excessive Use of Antibiotics: Prolonged or frequent use of antibiotics disrupts the natural balance of microorganisms in the body, paving the way for candida overgrowth. Common indicators include: 1. Red Rash: A prominent red rash may develop on the penis, accompanied by inflammation and soreness. 2. Burning Sensation: Individuals with a yeast infection may experience a burning sensation, particularly during urination or sexual intercourse. 3. Shiny White Patches: White, shiny patches may appear on the affected area, indicating the presence of candida overgrowth. 4. Itching: persistent itching and discomfort are characteristic symptoms of penis yeast infection, often leading to considerable distress. 5. Moist Skin: In severe cases, the skin on the penis may become moist or damp, exacerbating the discomfort. 1. Herbal Medicines: Ayurvedic formulations incorporate potent herbs known for their antifungal properties, such as neem, turmeric, and aloe vera. These natural ingredients combat candida overgrowth and alleviate symptoms effectively. 2. Lifestyle Recommendations: Ayurveda emphasises lifestyle modifications to support healing and prevent recurrence. This may include dietary adjustments, stress management techniques, and maintaining proper hygiene practices. 3. Dietary Modifications: A balanced diet plays a crucial role in Ayurvedic treatment for penis yeast infection. Foods with anti-inflammatory and immune-boosting properties are recommended to enhance overall health and immunity. 4.
