What is the function of the pancreas, and what happens if it stops working properly? - #14614

I recently heard that the pancreas is one of the most important organs in the body, but I don’t fully understand what it does. From what I read, it helps with digestion and controls blood sugar, but how exactly does it work? What are the most common problems that can affect the pancreas? I’ve heard of pancreatitis and diabetes, but are there other conditions that can damage it? Also, what are the early symptoms of pancreas problems? Can someone have an issue with their pancreas without even realizing it? I read that certain foods and habits can either protect or harm the pancreas. Are there specific foods that are good for keeping it healthy? Does Ayurveda have any treatments or herbs that support pancreas function, especially for people at risk of diabetes? If anyone has had pancreas problems before, what symptoms did you notice first, and how was it diagnosed? Also, is it possible to heal the pancreas naturally, or do most conditions require medication or surgery?

In Ayurveda, how you eat and live can have a big impact on the health of your pancreas. Fresh, whole foods are a safe bet. Think colorful veggies, fruits, whole grains; try to keep things light and unprocessed.
