Hello dear, In the Ayurvedic view, hypothyroidism is primarily seen as a condition of Agnimandya (low metabolic fire) leading to Kapha-Medo Vriddhi (accumulation of heavy, sluggish qualities and fat tissue) and Srotorodha (blockage in the body’s channels). This slow metabolism causes weight gain, fatigue, and constant sleepiness. While Ashwagandha is an excellent adaptogen that supports the thyroid by balancing the endocrine system and reducing stress-induced fatigue, using the raw powder alone may not fully address the metabolic sluggishness (Agni) and weight gain. It is often paired with deepana-pachana (digestive fire-kindling) herbs. I’m Prescribing some medicines for hypothyroidism but it was better if you share medical investigations (blood reports) for thyroid so I can evaluate the TSH, T3, T4 level. Prescription for hypothyroidism. 1. Kanchanara Guggulu Dose: 2 tablets twice daily with warm water, 30 minutes after meals. Action: Research-backed classical formulation that selectively reduces glandular swelling, modulates elevated TSH, and clears Kapha-Medas blockages. 2. Vara Churna Dose: 1 teaspoon (approx. 3–5g) with warm water at bedtime. Action: Enhances Pachana (digestion), eliminates Ama, and optimizes intestinal absorption to jumpstart weight loss. 3. Guggulutikthakam Kwatham Dose: 15 ml mixed with 45 ml of lukewarm water, twice daily, taken on an empty stomach 1 hour before breakfast and dinner. Action: Deeply purifies the blood (Rakta) and fat (Meda) tissues, correcting the foundational metabolic sluggishness fueling weight retention. 4. Shaddharan churna Dose : take 2 tablet morning 2 tablet evening before food. With Luke warm water. 5. Punarnava madur tablet Dose : 2 tablet morning 2 evening after food with like warm water.
Dear patient, This condition is due to irregular routine and yes loss of appetite is the top notch reason Do not give ashwaganda in loss of appetite as it cause more heavyness and fatigue. Ashwaganda didn’t digest and cause ama formation (toxins) in body. Initially restore appetite (agni) -chitrakadi vati 2tab thrice a day before meals(atleast 10 min before) For hypothyroidism -kanchanara guggulu 2tab twice a day after meals For hormone balance -ashokarishta 15ml mix with equal amount of water twice a day after meal Is she have constipation? Kindly follow this treatment for 1 month Hope this treatment helpful for you Thank you
Yes, Ashwagandha can help support energy, stress management, and fatigue in hypothyroidism, especially with irregular routine and poor sleep. But it should be taken along with her regular thyroid medicine, not as a replacement. Most important is correcting sleep timing, regular meals, and daily activity, as irregular lifestyle can worsen tiredness and weight gain. Ashwagandha powder – ½ teaspoon at night with warm milk for 1 week If tolerated well, increase to 1 teaspoon nightly Avoid taking it on an empty stomach. Regular walking and protein-rich home food will also help improve energy and metabolism. Regards, Dr Raghuveer (Ayurvedacharya)
