I have stomach inflammation due to gastrisis. I took ampicillin clauvanate and metronidazole for five days. I have cut out processes foods. I have more than 25kg due to malabsorption. How do I get nutrients from my food in order to regain healthy weight. I am 42

This usually stems from an imbalance in Pitta dosha aggravated by lifestyle factors, diet, or even stress. So, think cool and calming, both in literal and energetic terms.

Focus on optimizing your agni, or digestive fire, which is pivotal for nutrient absorption. Start by regularizing meal times—having three meals a day ideally that are digestible and cooked. Avoid raw foods for now as they can be hard on your stomach. Include turmeric and ginger in your meals; they both soothe the stomach lining and support digestion. A glass of warm water with a pinch of a rock salt and lemon juice can ignite agni in the morning (but go easy with the lemon as you’re dealing with acidity issues).

For foods, try rice porridge (kanji) or moong dal soup seasoned lightly with cumin and coriander seeds. Ghee can be a great addition too, helps soothing and nourishing your gut lining, start with small amounts like a teaspoon. Aloe vera juice is wonderful for its cooling properties; try taking a tablespoon before meals. But avoid overly cooling things like raw salads or cold drinks, as they can hinder your agni’s strength.

Stress can hugely exacerbate stomach issues, so incorporate practices like Pranayama or even just deep breathing exercises, could bring a real difference. Yoga postures that help digestion like Vajrasana or Supta Baddha Konasana can also support healing.

Steer clear of over-spicy, oily, or fast foods. They just derange pitta more. Since you’re keen on regaining weight, focus on nourishing yourself deeply. Pureed vegetable soups, sweet potatoes, ripe bananas, or soaked almonds can be good additions—ensure you’re introducing these while monitoring how they feel.
