My heart is pounding - #19742

Sanjana
$2.34

Why do I sometimes feel a strong heartbeat for no apparent reason? It can happen while I’m at rest or after walking, and sometimes at night when I can’t fall asleep for a long time. Occasionally, it feels like my heart skips a beat or beats too fast. Could this be related to stress, diet, or a deficiency of certain vitamins? How can Ayurveda help me? I am 23 years old, my weight is 40 kg

Did you lose weight recently or you have difficulty in gaining weight? Have you check your hemoglobin & thyroid parameters? Palpitations have multiple reasons and need to be evaluated properly.

Hello Sanjana, To understand your condition better, could you provide more details about your lifestyle, diet, and daily routine? Do you experience high levels of stress or anxiety? How are your sleep patterns and overall emotional health? Are there any triggers you’ve noticed that seem to make your heartbeat irregularities worse, such as certain foods, physical exertion, or emotional states?

From an Ayurvedic perspective, the symptoms of a strong or irregular heartbeat, along with feelings of anxiety, may be related to an imbalance in the Vata dosha, which governs movement and the nervous system, or Pitta dosha, which governs heat and intensity in the body. Stress, emotional tension, and diet can aggravate these doshas, leading to irregular heartbeats, palpitations, and feelings of anxiety. Ayurveda focuses on restoring balance through calming and grounding herbs like Ashwagandha (for stress and vitality), Brahmi (for calming the mind), and Arjuna (which is good for heart health). Ensuring a balanced diet rich in minerals like magnesium and potassium (found in leafy greens, bananas, and nuts) can help regulate heart function. Regular practices of yoga and pranayama (breathing exercises) are also highly recommended to calm the nervous system and improve circulation.

Feeling your heart pounding at unusual times can be unsettling, right? It’s not an uncommon experience and could be linked to several factors, including stress, the food you eat, or even dehydration. Let’s break that down a bit according to Ayurveda.

Your experience may relate to a Vata imbalance, especially since Vata dosha governs movement, including heart rhythm. When Vata is aggravated, it can lead to palpitations. Your low weight of 40 kg suggests that your Vata might indeed be high. Vata qualities are light, mobile, and dry, and if they’re present in excess, it may lead to anxious, restless tendencies - the kind that might keep you awake at night. Stress and a rushed or irregular lifestyle can exacerbate these tendencies.

So, how can Ayurveda help you? Try establishing a more grounded daily routine; regularity helps to calm Vata. Move slowly, don’t rush meals, and favor warm, moist foods over cold, dry ones. Cook with spices like ginger and cumin which are warming and soothing. Save the caffeine-filled beverages for another day.

Yoga and pranayama, specifically channels like Nadi Shodhana (alternate nostril breathing), can steady your mind and heart rate.

Don’t forget oils! Daily abhyanga (self-massage) with warm sesame or almond oil is calming. Apply gentle pressure on your chest. Practice before showering and you’ll feel much more centered after.

Now, let’s chat about the urgency. While it might feel benign now, palpitations can sometimes flag something more significant. Low weight, dietary habits, iron deficiency, or electrolyte imbalances could also contribute. If these sensations keep going, maybe a visit to a healthcare provider could be wise… just to be sure. Sometimes getting a check-up can lift a weight you didn’t know you were carrying.

You’re young, so staying in tune with your body gives you a great headstart on health. Let me know if this resonates, or if there’s more to explore.
