I am really confused about something and hope someone can help. My digestive issues have been acting up lately, like bloating and discomfort after eating, and I've read that curd can be beneficial. But which curd is best for improving gut health? I tried a few different kinds, but I can't tell if they’re helping or not. I usually buy plain yogurt but sometimes switch to Greek yogurt cause I thought it might be thicker or more nutritious, ya know? Also, there’s those probiotic drinks I see at the store that have curd—are they good too? I went to a doc last week, and they mentioned dairy can either help or harm depending on what you choose, so now I’m just all over the place. I'm a bit hesitant to keep experimenting without knowing which curd is best. Does anyone have experience with this or know what’s actually effective? Really don’t wanna feel worse!

hello Addison, If you’re facing bloating or indigestion, avoid Greek yogurt or sour packaged curd. The best option is homemade, fresh, mildly sour curd, taken only at lunch, not at night. Even better—dilute it to make buttermilk (Takra) with jeera and salt. This helps digestion and reduces gas.

Avoid curd during rainy or cold days, and don’t mix it with fruits or non-veg.

For bloating:

Generally, curd (or yogurt) is sour and can increase Kapha and Pitta doshas, which may not always suit everyone, especially those prone to digestive disturbances like bloating.

For your specific symptoms, you might benefit from consuming homemade curd which tends to be fresher and less processed compared to commercially available ones. Opt for plain, unsweetened yogurt, preferably made from grass-fed cows because it tends to be less acidic and has a balance that’s easier on the stomach. You might consider preparing the curd yourself to ensure its purity and digestive friendliness. Simply let milk ferment overnight in a warm place (specially in summers,it ferments quickly).

Greek yogurt is thicker due to being strained, removing some whey, lactose, and sugar, thus making it more protein-rich. While beneficial for some, its texture can sometimes be heavy, potentially aggravating bloating in those with sensitive digestion. If you respond well to it, have it as a mid-morning snack, not late at night when digestion slows down.
