hello Priyanka singh,

The dark spots on your face that have been spreading for 3 years are most likely a condition called melasma, which is often linked to hormonal changes, sun exposure, stress, or certain food habits. In Ayurveda, this is known as Vyanga, and it happens due to an imbalance of Pitta (heat) and Vata (dryness and sensitivity) in the skin. Your skin is sensitive, which is why modern creams may not have helped much and could have even worsened the condition over time.

In Ayurvedic understanding, before we treat pigmentation, we first correct digestion and clear toxins (called āma) from the system. Once the body is balanced internally, the skin naturally starts to regain its tone and clarity.

Treatment Plan:

Step 1: Āma Pachana (for 5 days)

Avipattikar Churna – 1 teaspoon with warm water before breakfast and dinner Manjisthadi Kashayam – 15 ml with 45 ml warm water twice a day before food Step 2: Internal Treatment (from Day 6 onwards) 3. Khadirarishta – 20 ml with equal warm water after lunch and dinner 4. Rakta Chandan Churna – ½ teaspoon with honey, morning and night 5. Sarivadi Vati – 1 tablet twice daily after food

External Application: 6. Kumkumadi Taila – Apply 3–4 drops at night on the affected area, massage gently, leave overnight 7. Face pack: Mix Lodhra + Yashtimadhu + Rakta Chandan powders with rose water and apply 3 times a week

Investigations to consider (if not already done):

Thyroid profile (TSH, T3, T4) Serum Vitamin D Female hormone profile (especially if irregular periods, weight gain, or PCOD symptoms are present)

If you have any doubts, you can contact me. Take care, Regards, Karthika

ACCORDING TO AYURVEDA -“VYANGA” is a condition where dark patches appear on face without pain -It occurs due to vitiation of pitta and vata dosha, mainly -rakta Dhatus (blood) and Mamsa dhatu (skin/muscle tissue) get disturbed. -stress, sun exposure, oily/spicy food, and hormonal imbalances worsens it

TREATMENT GOAL -balance aggravated doshas- mainly pitta and vata -purify the blood -improves skin health and complexion -repair liver function as skin reflects liver toxins -prevent further spread -nourish deeper tissues -protect sensitive skin without harsh chemicals

Hyperpigmentation, like melasma, can be quite tenacious, especially on sensitive skin. In Ayurveda, it is often seen as an imbalance in pitta dosha, aggravated by factors like stress, heat exposure, and diet. First things first, focus on cooling your system down. Start by integrating pitta-pacifying foods such as cucumber, sweet fruits, and leafy greens. Cut down on spicy, greasy foods and alcohol as they can inflame pitta.

A natural and effective remedy involves using aloe vera. Fresh aloe vera gel, when applied overnight, can soothe and lighten spots over time. This might take patience though. Besides, make rose water part of your daily routine; splash it over your face everyday to cool and calm your skin.

Manjistha (Rubia cordifolia) can be beneficial for you. This potent blood purifier reduces pigmentation. You could consume manjistha powder with warm water daily but, it’s wise to consult an Ayurvedic practitioner for dose specific to you.

Try making a herbal face pack with turmeric, sandalwood powder, and rose water applied once or twice a week. Turmeric has anti-inflammatory properties that help in reducing pigmentation.

Stress can also aggravate melasma, so ensure you’re getting enough rest and incorporate yoga or meditation into your routine. Awareness and managing stress is really crucial.

Keep also in mind sun protection; use a natural, broad-spectrum sunscreen to protect your sensitive skin. Avoid staying out during peak sun hours and always wear a hat or carry an umbrella when going out.

Lastly, drinking plenty of water daily is crucial for flushing out toxins. It’s not just about externally treating the skin but purifying from the inside out as well. If symptoms persist, or you notice any deterioration, please consult a healthcare provider or dermatologist for further professional evaluation.

Melasma and hyperpigmentation can be quite tricky, especially with sensitive skin. In the Siddha-Ayurvedic approach, we first look at the balance of doshas and how they might be affecting the skin. Melasma often relates to an imbalance in Pitta dosha, which governs heat and metabolism. When Pitta is exacerbated, it can lead to skin issues, including pigmentation disorders.

A good starting point is managing heat both internally and externally. Focus on a Pitta-balancing diet by reducing spicy, oily, and acidic foods. Increase intake of cooling foods like cucumbers, fresh coriander juice, and aloe vera. Drinking lukewarm water upon waking up with a slice of lemon can also help detoxify and balance the body’s pH.

For external application, consider applying sandalwood paste. Mix sandalwood powder with rose water to form a paste, applying gently to the affected areas. This can soothe the skin and gradually reduce pigmentation. Do this regularly, perhaps three times a week, and observe any changes.

Because your skin is sensitive, it’s crucial to test any topical application on a small area first. Also, minimize sun exposure, as UV rays can worsen melasma. If you must go out, use protective clothing and a natural sunscreen.

Also, I’ll recommend reviewing your cosmetic and skincare products to ensure they’re suitable for sensitive skin, free from harsh chemicals. Opt for products with natural ingredients. Lastly, stress can contribute to Pitta imbalance – practices like yoga and meditation may help.

Though these suggestions are rooted in traditional practices, if symptoms persist or worsen, consider consulting an Ayurvedic practitioner directly for personalized care. Sometimes, a detailed pulse diagnosis becomes necessary to create a precise treatment plan. Take care!
